The Duchess of Cambridge opened new children’s hospice for EACH

On November 15, 2019, The Duchess of Cambridge, patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), attended the opening of the charity’s new hospice in Norfolk, called The Nook. At the official opening ceremony, the Duchess gave a short speech. EACH was one of the Duchess of Cambridge’s first patronages, announced in January 2012, and the organization provides support to children and young people with life-threatening conditions in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

After the opening ceremony, the Duchess of Cambridge toured the facilities in the new hospice including a hydrotherapy pool, state-of-the-art sensory room and music studio. The Duchess also met with young people receiving care and their families while they were taking part in arts and crafts activities. The Duchess wore a burgundy jacket and full pleated skirt by Oscar de la Renta.

  1. Die Farbe knallt. Wunderbar.

Frieda

  2. Love this happy color, love peplums, love Catherine -- but imo such short skirts are just too young for her at this point. At first I thought the twirliness was part of the problem for me, but add a couple of inches to this and it would be fine. (No easy fix for the clunkyness of chunky heels, though.)

  3. Beautiful outfit, and colour. Love the length with hose tights. The clutch and earrings. I got the Aspinal item. Very versatile and elegant. Lovely Catherine.

Well done.

  10. I adore this combo of skirt and jacket, but it looks better on the model, maybe because the skirt is a bit longer. Black stockings and shoes are perfect with this ensemble. It was a beautiful and hard mission, it's not easy to comfort ill children and their parents.

  11. Never been too sure of the skirt of this suit with its widely flaring skirt. However, it's a gorgeous colour and a great fit and I still prefer it to the poorly fitting trousers form earlier in the week. Catherine herself looks as lovely as ever

  13. That´s a very young outfit, and if it´s that small on you, you´ll inevitably look juvenile.

    1. You know, that a very good point. I think one reason it looks better on the model is because of the looser fit.

  16. Love the color and material of outfit on the duchess. However it would look better if the skirt was longer as it is a tad short making it looks "juvenile".
Just a side note, I wish the duchess would venture out and try pant suit/ business suit sometimes. Princess Mary and Queen letizia wear them very well.

    1. She can. Should she? That’s the question. You can have any kind of clothes with the right body. When you represent her majesty, should you attract so much attention to your legs? You can. Should you? LA

  18. I don't dislike this look but I do think it's a bit too juvinile for Kate at this point. She wears it well in terms of size and fit but I just think it's more suited for someone in their early-mid twenties than a woman in her late thirties. Jmo.

    1. A woman in her late thirties is actually still pretty young. :) No problem in wearing "juvenile" dresses even later in life. I personally don't like the color and it doesn't suit Catherine at all, but the dress and the black tights and shoes with their fun heels go well together. And she looks happy, that's always nice to see.

    2. @Europa. My thoughts exactly. Not such a good choice for a grown up woman in her late thirties, even if late 30 is still kind of young, but not "really young". AND! she is on duty for the Queen and should look professionel and not school-girlish. Frieda

  20. I think people wear what they like and not worry too much about whether it's too young/old for the. Having said that this really doesn't work for me - the short flouncy skirt is just a bit too juvenile in style for my taste. Nice colour though, jacket is nice.

  23. This outfit is a total NO for me, it has the skater vibe, and it's way too juvenile, at least she is wearing opaque tights and the shoes are nice. The duchess could never looks bad because she is a very attractive woman, but on this instance her natural elegance is missing.

  24. I've always disliked this outfit. It reads "twee". I think it might be because of the skirt. (I wonder what it would look like if the skirt weren't as flouncy?) She's repeated it enough times now that I think it can be safely retired.

  25. I think this outfit is very unflattering on Kate. The proportions are some how totally wrong. With this suit she looks like she don't know what to do with her legs and arms, they are all over. And the colour makes her look pale. -Siri

  26. Lovely in every way. And I love the 40/60 denier pantyhose, because in general ( and I really don't why) all royals wear those awful skin coloured pantyhose, which in my opinion are not elegant at all

  27. Clutter , clutter, clutter. The skirt looks frilly, the peplum is frilly, there are many buttons, there is a busy collar, there are pretty prominent bound buttonholes and all that flowing hair argueing with the collar. Added to that a waistline which as usual is above her natural waistline and a too short skirt. I love the colour of the suit, I love the Duchess of Cambridge but I do not like this combination. I liked this suit the first time dhe wore it but I think her change in hair colour which is also making her hair dull and lifeless just makes it looks all fussy.

  35. For me, it is the proportion between jacket and skirt that is not really favourable (for anyone). Not her age and not her legs (10 cm more and they would draw as much attention, because she has nice legs, above and under the knee). And by the way, not so nice legs would draw as much attention anyway, with 10 cm more or less, simply because you cannot avoid scrutiny :-)). And this is not even a real miniskirt. - So for me, this is an ungood proportion, for a peplum above the waist you need less (or no) flouncyness directly under the waist because flouncy skirt and peplum kill each other.

  36. This suit does her no favours whatsoever. Too tight, too short and focuses attention too much on her legs. Very poor choice. Juvenile doesn’t even touch it, that’s if you want to put it mildly. Despite the comments about her dress coats and coatdresses supposed to be her unciform, I am convinced we would all pay more attention to the cause than her legs if she was to wear one. Great, remarkable article about the cause at the Duchess Kate website. Learnt a lot about EACH by reading it.

Hoping for an outfit more appropriate next time. Even a ‘boring’ coatdress. LA

  37. Sometimes I wonder are everyone in here born conservative and old ;) Nothing wrong with Kates outfit. The color is great, the length on the skirt is nice (it's not to short. we have seen other real born royals with shorter, and see the irony that no one complains on her dark tights...Ok I shall admit that the jacket is not my cup of tea, but can't we stop this body and clothes bashing and try to be nice to each other instead, or as mum said if you don't have anything nice to say about others don't say anything at all...
