On September 30, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima attended ‘India and The Netherlands’ seminar held at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The seminar was about the relationship between The Netherlands and India, and was organized by The Royal Asian Art Society in the Netherlands and the Embassy of India in the Netherlands. |
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will make a state visit to the Republic of India at the invitation of President Ram Nath Kovind. The visit will take place from October 14 to 18 and include the cities of New Delhi, Mumbai and the state of Kerala. |
As I opened this post and saw only the head shot of the King and Queen before scrolling down, I thought that they were like a couple of ageing celebrities--he with the scruffy beard and she with the dishevelled hair. Some men suit beards, (think Prince Haakon or Prince Harry) some don't and the beard does nothing for the King. Maxima looks years older in that first pic too and the coat is just too short to be smart. Like the shoes but love those worn by the lady in the second last photo as well as her lovely pink outfit.
ReplyDeletei love their ageing look. they age like a fine wine, and happier than ever
DeleteWell said!
DeleteE.
Totally agree with you Winnie.
DeleteThey are middle aged. How are they suppose to look? 21? I love his facial hair. Maxima's hair usually looks a fright, Ive grown accustomed to it
DeleteThey both look terrible, Maxima looks old and her hair the worse she ever had .

DeleteMaxima is 48 and - she looks her age. Looking younger (or trying to look younger) is not part of a fashion statement. Hairwise, yes, she has not found a hairstyle that does not need a stylist. By the way, the hair of fashion models looks a lot worse than Maxima with her somewhat unkempt hairstyle.

And what is even wrong with old? Is that bad?
DeleteI love Maxima's energy and her smile, but the hair unfortunately looks like she just got out of bed.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coat dress, shoes and clutch. A chignon would have sealed the look for this outing. The Queen does not have the quality of natural hair that can be worn lose unless she engages a professional which I’m sure she doesn’t want to do for every outing.
ReplyDeleteThe King looks so much better with a beard. Maxima's coat and shoes are quite great, but not her hair.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they are suffering from jet lag. The clothes are blah. M
ReplyDeleteHe was never handsome but now looks just awful. What is it with all those royals and their beards these days? As for Maxima, a comb and brush don't cost much, and here she could have worn a small hat or at least something to hold her hair back.
ReplyDeleteI think it is safe to assume that beards are not a personal preference of yours. There is nothing wrong with that. We all have our likes and dislikes. Saying that Willem-Alexander was never a handsome man is rude. Adding that he looks even worse with his beard is offensive. What really matters is how he feels about his beard, and to a lesser extent, how Maxima likes it. He is doing what many men do. Only time will tell if he decides to keep it. I think if Willem-Alexander is so offensive to your eyesight, it might be in your best interest to pass by these posts. There will always be others to comment on. Now if Maxima grows a beard, I have a feeling we will be on the same side of the argument.
Delete@ chardonn8r,Lizzie is not saying to Willem that he was never handsome, she is saying about him.I do not see anything rude about that. Some men are handsome and some not and that goes for women also.
DeleteI am pretty sure he doesn't read that blog .
AVA
Lolol….totally agree!
DeleteE.
Chardonn8r, 👏👏👏👏👏👏
DeleteChardonn8r, well said! I happen to think that Willem looks much more handsome with the beard.
DeleteI really wish Maxima would stop dyeing her hair for a while so it could recover from all it's damage.
ReplyDeleteThe Queens outfit is a rare miss for me. Her hair not so good either.
ReplyDeleteThis coat is too short and too tight to be elegant, I am not keen on these shiny fabrics either, obviously they have their place in design, but not on this instance. Never liked the shoes either, bows are always best on the back or side, but these look prissy. I generally find something that I like about her outfits, but not today. The hair issue, continues to be incomprehensible to me, being a person that always dresses to the hilt, I can't see any reasonable explanation as of why she doesn't have a professional hair stylist to get her presentable for official duties, it can't be for financial reasons, these people have a very hefty staff, surely she had a person that coordinates her wardrobe, buying and dealing with designers and helping her with her choices, and layouts. No other royal goes out in public without being perfectly coiffed, whether we like their style or not. I am sure that she has hair problems, whether it'll be for health reasons or abuse, but we know that she can make it look good on occasions, I just don't get it. Just to be clear, my comments about her hair are in no way a critique about her, as I truly admire this woman for many other reasons.
ReplyDeleteI Always read your comments Cherry: you write so well and you are sooo right:)
DeleteI do not agree, I like Maxima's experimenting with different styles. Do not like the boring outfits of Kate M etc. I do agree with the comments about the hair.
DeleteWell said Cherry!
DeleteThey look horrible. They have never been the most beautiful couple in the universe but they are old and different. Guillermo's beard only makes him look like a homeless man and Máxima with what he has put on his face, botox or whatever, he still looks like an old woman, but now with a different face. There is no way to recognize it ... And a raise so that these two smile ... I would also smile with the life of luxuries that this couple has
ReplyDeleteIt seems that you are simply envious, that's what I read between your lines. And this makes you write nasty comments.
DeleteAngieF
Not sure what country you live in, but I have lived in several large metropolitan areas and I have never seen a homeless man dressed in an expensive suit and tie as Willem is here. I also doubt you have any first hand information regarding whether Maxima visits a cosmetic surgeon or not.
DeleteAnd again: is old a bad thing?
DeleteMaxima is one of the most beautiful royal ladies. Yes I agree, her hair does not look good here, but the dress coat and her shoes are just great. -Siri
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Siri .
DeleteNot a good look for Maxima. The dress/coat and shoes are not elegant, as usual too much going on..... shiny material, not an impeccable fit, ugly shoes with gold accents......and on top of that the hair (ha ha, litterally) ...She would benefit from a simple style of cloathing with perfect fit...... Look at Letizia who is able to carry of Zara dresses as if these were designer stuff simply by letting these garments being tailored to perfection.
ReplyDeleteLily T.
It is so nice that there are people who are older, uglier etc. than yourself. You can feel being young and beautiful. And it's even better if those people are royals (with all the resources they have...) Margot
ReplyDeleteMargot, what an odd comment... I guess we are all different, but do you really feel beautiful when looking at people that you consider ugly? No offense but I imagine that your beauty is only on the outside, because your comment is downright UGLY. Not to mention petty and unkind.
DeleteI fully disagree with you, in my book Máxima is a rather attractive woman, that sometimes makes bad clothing choices, and persist having bad hair days :-) and that is just my opinion, which I am sure many disagree with.
Janelarn, I also disagree with the statement that she has done things to her face, she is the picture of natural aging, I also don't like Willem with the beard, but that is a personal preference, and there is no need to be nasty about it.
I stated my opinion about her appearance above, and I want to believe that it can be done without been so rude.
Cherry Blossom, I think Margot meant the opposite. She does not approve of critical remarks of royal appearances.... she thinks that people, e.g. myself, put other people, especially royals for reasons of envy, down in order to make themselves feeling better. But I can be wrong.
DeleteI also think, by the way, that Maxima has done things to her face.....just compare her face with that of 15 year ago. Eyes, teeth, lips, cheecks, have seen needles and knives..... in a clever and modest way.
Lily T.
@ Margot,to some point I do agree with you . Sure we feel much better when we are considered attractive by others. But unfortunately I see many young people who are not lets say "beautiful" so its not only age.
DeleteAVA
I think Margot was being sarcastic given all the negative posts here about people looking old and ugly. //Haga
DeleteWell, Margot if you were being sarcastic. I totally missed the pun. If that is the case, my most sincere apology for my response.
DeleteRegards
The shoes are a complete miss for me...the thick, unflattering, industrial-looking stovepipe heels would look unattractive on anyone, I think -- and they are a very odd counterpoint to the bow at the front. Maxima's beautiful legs deserve better.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing good about this look, IMO. That bronzer, whew. That hair. If she would get some professional help in makeup and hair, that would help fix most of her issues. She is an attractive woman with such a radiant smile. As for her love of shiny, sometimes weird fabrics/outfits, I don't think she's giving those up. Be quirky, Maxima, just have great tailoring.
ReplyDeleteChel
El abrigo vestido no está mal, no lo veo corto yo, su pelo fatal.
ReplyDeleteWell, well... we are all so happy to teach others how they should behave (not to mention how quick we are to tell royals which charities they should support and which not; never mind what to wear to every occasion, but that is, in fact, actually the point of this blog, isn’t it?).
ReplyDeleteI will stick to my opinion on the clothes and perhaps haircuts: Máxima has a great personality, and that is the first thing I see every time I look at pictures of her. She comes from a very different environment than most of us are used to (i.e.: she is from Latin America, not British or of British background - like Mary) and I love this diversity she brings to what would otherwise be a very uniform (and ultimately boring) display of royal fashion. Kate and Mary are great dressers and as we’ all so used to British style, they ‘fit’ our expectations of what a royal ‘should’ wear. Fun and flamboyant isn’t something we likely ever said about any of them. So, personally, I am glad that Máxima (and occasionally Mathilde and Letizia) break ‘the norm’. And from what I read and hear from Dutch friends, everyone loves her - something we can rarely say with regards to both royals and elected leaders of other countries. Also, by the way, she is extremely smart and plays a role few are aware of on the global financial scene, often advising World Bank and other such organizations. Perhaps something to be informed about.
Back to this particular sartorial look, I don’t dislike it (notable exception: hairdo or lack there of), but it does nothing for her. I am glad she owns her age and isn’t trying to ‘look younger’ like other ladies (including certain royals, who in fact rarely are successful at it). I hope she’ll soon find a better haircut as indeed sometimes it is distracting from the overall look and the remarkable work she is doing.
Lily A
The coat is ok for me, shoes etc as well...
ReplyDeleteI think she is convinced this super casual hair style is ok for her. Above all I think she likes to be able to switch from one style to another, and Dutch citizens like that.
Maxima looks ok. I want to think that it must be a challenge to look coiffed and pressed all the time. But I agree that she probably has the resources to do so. It is a mystery about her hair.
ReplyDeleteHave not see her wear this in a long time. Maxima looks good. It is MO the King looks better without a beard?
