On the evening of the first day of their state visit to India, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima attended a state banquet hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan presidential palace in New Delhi. At the dinner, President Ramnath Kovind and King Willem-Alexander both gave a speech. Queen Maxima wore a new bespoke evening gown by Jan Taminiau. |
Maxima definitely looking like the queen that she is!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...
ReplyDeleteLovely fabric on Maxima's dress. However looks like western designers trying to copy eastern costumes and the result is a fail, especially the back view of the dress
ReplyDeleteMo-
Agree. The dress material is so beautiful, the style of the gown is not. It would have been beautiful in another style probably. When she's got her hair nicely done, something else is wrong.
Delete@Mo, what is wrong with the back view of the dress in your opinion? Because I can't see anything wrong at all. If I search for a fail long enough the only thing one could say is the shawl is a tad short in the back. Apart from that minor quibble this dress is perfectly tailored and fits the body like a glove. I am honestly interested to hear why you call this dress a fail. Could you explain what is wrong in your eyes....colour, cut, fit, execution, art of tailoring? It is also not a copy of indian costumes, just a slight nod in the direction of a one shoulder sari, but the cut is very western style, it is not the cut of a sari at all. But then again we saw one shoulder gowns in the west at least for the last fifty years.
DeleteI am with Beth here. This is a beautifully made gown.
DeleteI knew she wouldn't let me down! Cheers to Jan Taminiau for nailing it again!
ReplyDeleteAll eyes on the gown which reflects the dresses worn in India, and the beautiful jewelry. Very smart to keep the rest of her accessories simple.
She looks stunning, gorgeous, exquisite. Totally in love with this!
Totally agree with you Rosalyn.
DeleteNow this is classy. Q Maxima looks stunning in this gown. Beautiful design and color of this gown. Her hair looks great. The jewels are to die for.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteAbsolutely agree!!!
DeleteMáxima at her best!
ReplyDeleteyes!
DeleteGreat sweet colour on the queen.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit to indian-style for my personal taste. It's not representing dutch fashion.
But I like it.
Wow! This is spectacular. The dress fits beautifully, her hair is gorgeous, and her jewelry is perfect. When Q. Max gets it right, it’s hard to top her confident, statuesque beauty. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right.
DeleteCouldn't agree more. -Siri
DeleteMaxima looks beautiful. Her gown is lovely and the selection of the Rose Cut Diamond Bandeau is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful gown, I love the color.
ReplyDeleteHead to toe fabulous! The gown is a great design, a great color; and a great fit. Her hair is well done, and her jewels, while spectacular, are subdued for Queen Maxima. The first lady's traditional gown is quite beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteWhen Maxima gets it right, she really gets it right. Her dress is a stunning nod to traditional Saris, perfectly combined with the dutch rose cut diamond bandeau.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely incredible look on Maxima. Beautifully styled and pays a nice homage to my country’s rich embroidery and textiles.
ReplyDeleteMaxima looks lovely here. I love the design of her gown. It clearly takes its inspiration from the sari. She is also true to her own style, choosing a very ornate fabric, and she wears it beautifully. I am happy to see that she wore a low profile tiara and kept her jewelry to a minimum (for Maxima). As beautiful as she looks, I wish her dress had been a little more simple. Standing next to the president's wife, Maxima really outshines her. With her last two looks, I don't think she has taken into account her hosts and their level of formality.
ReplyDeleteMajestic Maxima!
ReplyDeleteShe looks beautiful. That dress is perfect. She is such a lovely Queen.
ReplyDeleteWow - Fabulous look and her hair looks good!
ReplyDeleteThe color of this pink is off putting somehow, not sure if its a true color, given evening lighting. I would have thought she would have respected the custom of the country a little more and covered both shoulders.... JT
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with the colour. It is not pink, it is a powdery rose, carefully chosen to match the rose diamonds. I have seen pictures on other media. The colour is fine in my eyes.
DeleteThere is nothing wrong with wearing a one shoulder dress in India for an evening event. The traditional sari has both shoulders covered, with a tummy free bodice and small sleeves. But there are modern versions, with just strap sleeves or one shoulder free. I think Maxima's choice is well in between the dress code. And a very good compromise of an indian inspired dress with a western cut.
I love her dress. It is very beautiful and a nod to Indian styles and fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI hate her shoes though, because they are so clunky and ugly, and she really didn´t need platform heels and tower over her hosts.
I completely agree.
Delete@Vanessa, I was asking myself the same question, was it really nessesary to wear these ugly chunky tower high platform heels?. Platform heels?? Really?? She is almost as tall as the king with them and overtowering her hosts in an awkward way. I mean, I get it, on official events and even more on evening state banquets, Maxima usually goes for the most impressive, most statuesque, most queenly appearance. But too much is too much.
DeleteThe shoes: exactly my thought, and the same thought I have had for many of Maxima's appereances. She does not need plateau shoes, as she is already very tall, and they often don't fit with the rest of the ensemble.
DeleteThe dress is amazingly! Fabulous superb. One of the best outfits she has worn recently. Well done
ReplyDeleteIsn't she too "naked" for the cultuture of this country?
ReplyDeleteSimple answer: No, she is not. The one shoulder evening gown is totally appropriate. Traditional saris don't show that much naked shoulder, the bodice usually has small sleeves and is more like a tummy free brassiere. For a western lady it would be considered as not suitable to go for the tummy free version, wouldn't it? So Maxima's one shoulder dress is a very good compromise of indian inspiration and western cut.
DeleteThe younger generation in India by the way does wear one shoulder cut saris for big festive events like weddings.
Maxima had redeemed herself. What a difference from earlier, she looks stunning! The dress is beautiful, and her hair and makeup are gorgeous. So happy about this look.
ReplyDeleteChel
Wow! A stunning dress and a lovely over-all look for the Queen. Full marks for her hair style and tiara.
ReplyDeleteThe stars for me are the gorgeous colour and the embroidered fabric. Fantastic!

Stunning! Maxima always nails it at State occasions
ReplyDeleteAgree.
DeleteHer hair looks so much better when it's prepared for jewels. Maxima looks lovely tonight. Carrie
ReplyDeleteMuch better than the lace tulle dress. She always looks at her best when she plays queen. If her hair can look so good here why does it look so terrible most of the times?
ReplyDeleteRoyalty fan
DeleteNinius, I so TOTALLY, totally agree! Why does it look so terrible MOST of the times? And yes. agree with all the other, stunning dress, and like Anon 10:25 pm, said, the jewels, are to die for
This is a beautiful dress, the style suits her perfectly, the Queen looks stunning. The colour is soft and feminine. Her choice of jewellery is spot on, the earrings are amazing. The Rose Cut Diamond Bandeau, is my favourite, the placement and size of the diamonds give this tiara just enough bling and sparkle so it is not too over the top. The Queens hair looks fabulous, the back view is so elegant and styled in well with her jewels. The close up photo of her brooch, its gorgeous, just love it.
ReplyDeleteQueen Maxima is absolutely gorgeous! Her hairdo is beautiful. Her gown is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning gown, the color, the print, the sari inspired style. She did great with the jewels as well, sort of subdued for her, but perfect for the dress, that has enough going on on its own. She looks regal from top to bottom, the only tiny thing I dislike is that platform sandal peeking below the dress, but I have read somewhere that they come in handy under those long dresses.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 2:09 , NO, she is not too naked as you put it, the sari is one of the sexiest outfits ( in my opinion) and Indian women proudly display arms, shoulder and midriff sometimes.
Maxima can certainly go from drab to fab when she want's to! Her gown, jewels, hair and makeup are simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteOne word: WOWWW
ReplyDeleteHair, make-up and dress are so elegant. don't know what to say more. Yes for this stunning outfit Queen Maxima!
This is a lovely dress. Not sure, however, about the tendency of Western royals to dress Eastern style when they are East..... It appears to be a one way ‘courtesy’ which makes it a bit condescending..
ReplyDeleteLily T.
My thoughts exactly I've been wondering the same thing. I think it's a little bit akward. But this dress is still ok for me, it's western style enough and Maxima looks divine with it. -Siri
DeleteMaxima at her best in every respect. She has such a wonderful complexion; I think it is a pity that she should be wearing such heavy eye makeup.
ReplyDeleteSuperbement belle Maxima dans cette robe... Très bien coiffée !!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing dress! Apparently she bought the fabrics in 2007 in India during the state visit of former queen Beatrix, who then was joined by Willem Alexander and Maxima
ReplyDeleteStunning, however I would cover up other shoulder.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE her evening gown, its color, fabric, pattern, style look fantastic. Jan Taminiau did it again! The dress style was perfect for India.
ReplyDeleteAnd the jewellery looks amazing. And her hairstyle also very good.
Queen Maxima can be hit or miss these days but this look is simply stunning!
- Karin
Only in my dreams would I ever look this good. Lovely dress!
ReplyDeleteAs stunning as the dress is, I don’t think the color is right for M.: She is a brunette and not a natural blonde. i think more vivid colors suit her better
ReplyDeleteEerlijk is eerlijk. Klasse. Chapeau. Ze draagt de juwelen van H.M. Koningin Juliana met verve.
ReplyDeleteMaximatastic! Such a fantastic great dress, I'm so in love with this outfit! She looks sooooo fabulous. Wish, I would just look half as fantastic as she does..
