On October 7, 2019, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended celebrations of 70th anniversary of enforcement of the National Rehabilitation System held at Tokyo International Forum. This is a system designed to give guidance to those who have committed crimes or those who have turned to juvenile delinquency so that they can become sound members of the society while spending normal social lives; the system is carried out in cooperation with the nation and the volunteers. |
Yes,her fashion is conservative and boring.
ReplyDeleteBut she knows that she is not the main character here. Masako is very intelligent woman.
Remember, she doesn't (yet) have full control of her fashion choices. They are mainly dictated by the Imperial Household, who make most of the decisions (for now) and allow her just a few options within a tight range, like colours and a few style details. I suspect that after the official enthronement later this month, and possibly even after she has had some months (may be even a year) of being in the role of Empress she may be allowed more personal freedom with her wardrobe choices and selections.
DeleteFor now, I think she's done very well; the colours and styles she's worn to date while repetitive, have always been well suited and perfectly tailored to her size and fit. She has always been perfectly presentable and always looks lovely. Her smile and pleasant demeanour are her greatest assets. No stylist can source and provide those. And yes, she is a very intelligent woman, fashion and otherwise.

You make an important point here; Masako (and, I would say, the other Japanese royal ladies we see here) does not dress to make a splash or achieve "fashion icon" status, but to be a credit to the imperial family by consistently dressing with dignity and quiet elegance. I admire that.
DeleteAnnonymous 11:47 pm. I agree this outfit looks boring, though her smile is there for all the enjoy. If as you said, "she is not the main character here" that should also apply to Maxima, as it is her husband who is the king, would you agree? I'm not quite certain I understand your remark about not being the main character, could you elaborate please.
DeleteFor example, in the award ceremony, the leading role (main character ) is the winner. Not Emperor nor Empress.
DeleteJapanese royals know they must not stand out. I think they always consider Ordinary people First.
Anny 4;43 am.... The Japanese palace decisions are made by men, who decide, not the women. Thus the reason things have not changed with allow women freedom of choice in what to wear.... JT
DeleteYes, her fashion is conservative, but I prefer to call it predictable, not boring. Her necklace, earrings and brooch are very pretty, and I love the cut of her jacket. The way it flares below the waist is very attractive. I admire her very much.
ReplyDeleteI love her smile.. she looks lovely. The royals in Japan are conservative in their public dress. The suit is perfectly tailored and her hat suits her.
ReplyDeleteI think she follows the maxim that “elegance is simplicity”. The suit is beautifully tailored and nicely accessorized. Well done! (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful pearl-grey ensemble is one of Masako's loveliest ever, imo. And I can't help imagining how attractive a small, pearl-grey pillbox hat would look with it 🙂.
ReplyDeleteYes! I love the pillbox suggestion.
DeleteI like everything she wears, but not, not, the chamber pot hats
ReplyDeleteMasako looks locely and elegant, but I wish, she would dare to be a bit more colourful and not always in the same style of suits and hats!
ReplyDeleteIt is too much like a female royal uniform, IMO.

Superbe tailleur dans cette couleur gris-perle ; bien jolis bijoux !!!
ReplyDeleteMasako looks lovely here. A nice soft colour, yes her suits seem to be of the same theme, but they suit her. The jacket is a wonderful fit and flares perfectly. Love the accompanying pearl necklace and earrings. The brooch looks very interesting, it would have been nice to get a closer look, I love brooches. She seems to have a lovely demeanour and gentle nature it comes through when she smiles.
ReplyDeleteLovely as always. E Masako is a beautiful lady.
