On the last day of their state visit to India, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima toured the backwaters of Alleppey (also known as Alappuzha) by boat. In 2018, the area, most of which lies a metre below sea level, was hit by major flooding which caused a great deal of human suffering. During the tour, the King and Queen received information about the measures being taken to prevent flooding in the future, and how Dutch expertise can help. Information on agricultural development in the area was also given to the King and the Queen. (Queen Maxima wore a lace midi dress by Natan.) |
Natan just will not go away!!
ReplyDeleteAgree,😭.
DeleteDespite the fact that Maxima's dress appears to be constructed of stiff lace of which I am not a fan, I might like it if (1) the skirt was not attached to the bodice on the outside, and (2) the underskirt was longer. Also, I'm not sure the dress is appropriate for a daytime cruise. I have joined the others on this blog who wish that Natan were exiled to an island. On the plus side, her hair is beautifully styled, and her hat and jewelry are surprisingly modest. I also like her shoes.
ReplyDeleteDitto!
DeleteHmmm no. The dress and shoes are totally out of context. Why not some flats and a simpler fabric?
ReplyDeleteCynthia, Totally agree, this outfit is not meant for a day trip such as they had, the lace is dress and shoes are over the top for the places they were visiting. A cocktail dress/shoes are not appropriate for traipsing around in the country side.
DeleteThe only thing good is that her hair is well done this time.
DeleteThis is a very nice and well fitting dress but it is a cocktail dress. A lace dress, cocktail hat and high healed shoes is not a good outfit for going out into the country. This looks more like an afternoon wedding and is an overkill for this outing. RH
ReplyDeleteNice dress and color, but a bit too fancy for this event?
ReplyDeleteI like the dress and the color, not the I need linen that is too short but is a fashion thing now, however this is a big NO to my, the setting, the time of the day and the activit calls for a different fabric. All in all Maxima got it "all" wrong
ReplyDeleteThe Netherlands is a modern country, so the king and the queen. Therefore I don‘t understand Maxima‘s choice of clothing for such performances.
ReplyDeleteIt´s a no from me too.
ReplyDeleteOrange is ok, but not with a pink lining.
Lace during daytime is always iffy, and the bodice´s construction is evening material. She is clearly overdressed, she needed something much simpler and sleeker, and for an outing by boat and along rice paddies, a smart casual outfit would have been right.
I´ll never understand why anyone would want a skirt with a much shorter lining.
And lastly, the way the skirt is attached to the bodice looks stupid.
Okay, Maxima ist eine Königin, aber dennoch: in Stöckelschuhen und Spitzenkleid bei Bauern im „Kornfeld“ zu stehen ist ein bisschen übertrieben.
ReplyDelete-Elisabeth-
Pants, a shirt, a sun hat and loafers would have been more appropriate for a visit to the Kerala Backwaters than a lace dress, high-heeled shoes and that absurd heddress. For some time now Queen Máxima seems frequently to have lost the plot sartorially.
ReplyDeleteDisagree with many of the points above. Love the hair’ the hat and the shoes. Like the colour of the dress but think it would be so much better with a self coloured lining not white. Don’t like the waist at all.
ReplyDeleteAs to the Quee’s formality, I THINK I once read that she believes that those who come to see Queens & Princesses expect them to look glamorous, even if that is over the top. They are not looking for jeans and trainers. May have been a different royal who said it but it does seem to be a rule that Maxima follows and good on her, I say.
Nice color and well fitting dress, but too dressy for this event. Like her hair and makeup.
ReplyDeleteOverdressed for the occasion
ReplyDeleteIt's also possible that their program includes another visit where a lace dress is needed - and there is not enough time for changing clothes.
ReplyDeleteto Sakurashine: As Willem-Alexander is wearing a business suit it shows clearly that the dress code was not "casual".
Margot
It was the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, who said famously during WWII: " If people came to visit me they would wear their best. So I do wear my best when I come to visit them." Especially in India where everybody, and I do mean EVERYBODY dresses up. Research. It is at tips of your fingers. If you are here commenting, you are sitting by your computer. From a different part of this visit mentioned above: What strikes me is that India understands the importance of the Dutch experience with floods and their outstanding technology to prevent them along their coast line. Why is the US deaf to it and keeps their coast lines unprotected is beyond believe.
ReplyDeleteLiza, the phrase you are quoting is extremely wise, however there is a huge difference between dressing regally and according to your station, and dressing with inappropriate outfits for the time of day, occasion, weather etc,. I have never seen Queen Elizabeth dressed with a cocktail dress, over the top jewelry, immense hats that don't allow a proper interaction with the people, and or ostentatious accessories, on a day visit whether is in her own country or abroad.
DeleteIn my humble opinion Máxima has her own style, and that's fine, but her sartorial choices seem to be based more on her personal taste, than protocol.
This is a rare miss for me. Very dense lace work. The dress is very cocktail themed. The shoes are nice, but not with this dress.
