On September 20, Friday, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the wedding of fashion designer Misha Nonoo and businessman Michael Hess at Villa Aurelia in Rome. Ms Nonoo is a close friend of Prince Harry and Meghan. At the wedding, The Duchess of Sussex wore a black puff sleeved embroidered tulle gown by Valentino. There were also Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice at the wedding. Ms Nonoo and Meghan Markle have been friends long before Meghan became royal. Ms Nonoo has recently worked with Meghan for her Smart Works charity capsule launch. |
Black for a wedding at daytime? Even if it’s Valentino, that’s a very very poor choice. But well, she is quite known for not choosing the right outfit. Especially at weddings..
ReplyDeletePrincess Eugenie also wore black (5th picture). Karlie Kloss looked stunning, also wearing black. -Jo
DeletePerhaps it also depends on tradition or the country you live in? Just a thought ;-) I am from the Netherlands and it's normal to see wedding guests dressed in black. Black dresses and suits can be very chic and stylish, and if you style it well, it is definitely suitable for a wedding. But that's my humble opinion.
DeleteFrom what I can see, Meghan looks nice. Perhaps the dress is very voluminous on her, judging from the model and the first two pictures. Perhaps it's too much for her slender body, but there is no full-length picture so I can't tell. But I quite like it.
Just hope there will be no Meghan-bashing this time. Some comments are so ugly negative lately...
Seriously- another harsh criticism about her right off the bat. She cant win. Take a look at other guests. Men are in tuxes and several women are in black. She is dressed appropriately.
DeleteShe looks beautiful! Why cant people just be happy for them or just leave them alone.
Meow!
DeleteToo all the ladies who showed up in black to a daytime wedding, please color would have been better
Deletemo-
Most of the guest ladies are in black.
DeleteTrudy, most of the ladies are in black. Why just Meghan?
DeleteYes,black at daytime, very poor for you but not for the bride.I see the images of italian tv and most of ladies are in black, and of course Eugenie too.IWhy Meghan it is the problem?Seriously?
DeleteFrankly my dears, I don't give a damn!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteObviously it was an evening event and there were other guests in black as well. Love this dress and in my opinion Meghan looks fantastic in it.
ReplyDeleteA sunset wedding - people are just digging for something. From what part i see Meghan looks very pretty!
DeleteJ'aimerais bien voir Meghan vêtue de ce style de robe !!!
ReplyDeleteMeghan is not the only woman wearing black. Have a look at Eugenie !
ReplyDeleteTrudy this is always the issue but they didn't mention the others in black. hmmmm
DeleteGet over it, every woman can wear a black dress, day time or night time on EVERY OCCASION!!!!!!.

ReplyDeleteShe was not the only one wearing black...
ReplyDeleteDoesn’t she have anyone to advise her? Or is it that she doesn’t follow advice? Everyone knows that black is not appropriate for a daytime wedding.
ReplyDeleteThe wedding started at 6 pm according to what I read in the papers, so it wasn’t a daytime wedding.
DeleteEveryone? Really?
DeletePerhaps in a different time or age, but today black is considered a chic colour for any occasion, weddings included.
Anon 9:13
In my understanding the event started at 6 pm. -Jo
DeleteBritish people obviously wear black only for funeral, but in other countries it's a chic colour and we wear it all the time. You can't make a mistake if you choose black.
DeleteYou have some weird fashion rules.
British people don't only wear black to funerals...
DeleteIn my country brides used to get married in black until the 60s-70s, my mother in law got married in pink, I can't see the nonsense about the white.....I think it was Queen Victoria who got married in white for the first time until that it was not a tradition at all...imagine other countries and cultures....
DeleteFrom pictures of the arrival of wedding guests, I see that Princess Beatrice, the wife of Paul McCartney, Karlie Kloss, and several others wore black gowns. To say that Meghan's gown was a "very very poor choice," because of the color, is a bit premature. I would guess that Ms. Nonoo, being a fashion designer, was consulted about color choices and gave her stamp of approval.
ReplyDeleteThe bridsmaif inclued princess Sophie are im black in the wedding of grandmother of the little prince.
DeleteAnyone who thinks one does not wear this or that colour to here or there or whatever is living in the last centuary. They are clean they have obviously made an effort to look like some trouble was taken to look nice. Meghan Always looks groomd brushed and polished and friendly. Stop gripeing and admire this extremely attractive lady who really dresses mostly with less is more sleek svelt and simply.
ReplyDeleteWho is Micha Nonoo???
ReplyDelete🤣🤣 top comment!
DeleteShe is a woman that will never invite you to her wedding!!!
DeleteGoogle and you will know all about her.
DeleteAVA
Never heard of her either. Her wikipedia page is very short. The most important item on that is that it is believed she organised the first date between Harry & Meghan.
DeleteThe Thought Police now even forbids a simple question about who someone is? It's getting more and more absurd!
DeleteShe's born in Barhain, studie in UK Paris and USA,a milionaire Iraquien father and Britsh mother, the first husband are studie and are friend of Willian,Harry,Eugenie and Beatrice, and it is a designer based in NY,and she was 31 years.
DeleteI am sure Maghan looks lovely, one can't see too much. I do love her earrings. When I look at the Models this outfit looks like a fancy nightgown and robe, fitting for a very romantic night. One can't see very much of the other guests. Maybe more pic's will fallow.
ReplyDeleteThe time given for the wedding was sunset, so the "rule' regarding not wearing black for a daytime wouldn't apply.

ReplyDeleteYes, several other women wore black and traditions do vary from country to country. Fashion speaking I do not care for this dress on the model. It does appear quite voluminous and this style usually looks better on a taller woman than Meghan. She may have chosen this style if her body is not back to its pre-pregnant size. I do like the gold touches on the dress.
ReplyDeleteWow, it’s a spectacular dress. I hope there are some full length photos of D. Meghan. It looks like a lot of dress for a petite woman but who knows? Black is often worn at weddings, afternoon or evening, here in Canada, so I see nothing wrong with the colour. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteIn the posts of this website prices of dresses are not mentioned usually. Are you really joining the club of publishers, who bully this person? Then you are going to loose a reader.
ReplyDeleteWell said.

ReplyDeleteI don't think this dress favors her siloutte, she looks better with simple classic lines.
ReplyDeleteRossie, I am curious to find out, how do you know that this dress doesn't favor her? There aren't any full body pictures, perhaps you have seen her in other publications? You could be right, but I can't comment on things I can't see. Once again these women that truly dislike her for their own reasons, are making up their own provincial fashion rules in order to find fault. Firstly, anybody with a minimal sense of style knows that they only forbidden color for a wedding is white, unless you ere getting married on the beach and the couple requests that all their guests wear white:-) . Secondly this was a PM event, so any color goes.
DeleteI happen to remember that my mother who was a woman that wore gloves, pantyhose and her little purse, when she went out to visit friends for coffee/tea, would keep her black lace dress and cultivated pearls always ready for any evening wedding, so yes black has always been acceptable.
I find this dress divine, but can't attest to how it looked on Meghan.
As always Cherry Blossom gives the correct sensible comment. We cannot possibly review the dress as we cannot see it in its entirety.
DeleteCalm down, Cherry Blossom, Rossie said "I don´t think this dress favors her silhouette", and that´s a perfectly reasonable thing to say. She´s only stating her opinion, and very respectfully so. She´s not trying to find fault in anyone. We can see a full body picture of the dress on the model, and that gives an clear indication of what body types are ideal for it in order for the dress to live up to its full potential.
DeleteWell said cherry blossom! Very outdated rule about wearing black to weddings just like saying you can’t wear white after Labor Day!
DeleteI think i gave a respecful opinion, nothing against the duchess. We are all here to share our thoughts about fashion in a fun and kind way.
DeleteNever heard of that rule. Btw in Europe labour day is on May 1st 😉
DeleteFrom what is in the news, it was a pre-wedding evening dinner, as the wedding itself is either this evening or tomorrow. However, the dress makes her look bigger on the top, same as was with the dress she wore to Disney screening. The transparent black panels always exaggerate roundness, even when the person is very slim, and it seems that she is still rounder on the top after the baby. I think it will look better on her in a few months.
ReplyDeleteBlack or not, the dress has too much bling, if Meghan had worn it to the wedding , but it was to a party the evening before, so nothing wrong with the dress and her choice.
ReplyDeleteI think we'll see at the wedding only the bride will wear a long gown, most ofthe guests will wear suits and hats as they did to Harry and Meghan's own wedding.

DeleteI personally don´t like black in general, and especially not on someone with dark hair, and certainly not for a wedding. As for Meghan´s dress, it gives a lingerie vibe, like a fancy night gown. And I agree with those saying that it best suited for tall slender women, and Meghan doesn´t quite fit that description.
ReplyDeleteI think that both Eugenie and Beatrice have lovely hairstyles here. I cannot see much of their dresses, but from what I can see I´d say that Eugenie´s black won´t get full points from me for reasons already given, and Beatrice´s gold sequins don´t bode well.
Codes are different, what goes in one place is wrong in another. I would not wear black or white to a wedding.
ReplyDeleteIt's 2029, people wear black to weddings all the time. I wish I could see the dress actually on her. She must look amazing! Also are you seriously mocking a charity?? - Capt. Marvel
ReplyDeleteIs it really?😂
DeleteNever black on a wedding!!!
ReplyDeleteLook pictures of Princess Sofia attending on a wedding. All the bridesmaids wore black and it looked very stylish. I think there is a trend there. -Jo
DeleteAnonymous @ 4:12, I am totally calm, but still curious as to whether there are any full body pictures on other publications.
ReplyDeletePersonally, unless one looks as though one is in morning and would rather be anywhere else in the world, wearing black to a wedding in my opinion far, far less offensive than wearing white, off-white or any shade that can be perceived to be "bridal" to a wedding no matter what time of day or night the wedding is held. The days of wearing black to a wedding being interpreted as a faux pas are long since gone.
ReplyDeleteThe outfit a certain young Royal wore to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding was however in very poor taste. I was shocked and disappointed in XX's choice. With such an extensive wardrobe and designers left, right and centre willing and happy to dress this Royal, XX could easily have chosen a far more appropriate outfit in any colour under the sun or even had yet another version of the same coat dress manufactured in any of the many shades of the rainbow.
In my opinion XX's choice of outfit and her demeanour sparked certain rumours which are still circulating today.
Post-natal depression, feeling jaded that someone new, interesting, and glamourous is now on the scene is no excuse. As Diana, Princess of Wales clearly indicated and illustrated, clothing and demeanour sends a very clear message whether one intends it to or not.
Should you refer to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge: she wasn't wearing cream or off-white colour, but a very pale yellow. It just looked very, very light outdoors in all the bright sunshine, and, therefore, made the wrong impression, which was, of course, a pity. With a post-natal body to struggle with, this might have been one of few options to wear for here back then.
Delete@ It's me, are you referring to Catherine? If so , I respectfully disagree with you, pale yellow is not inappropriate to wear to a wedding, in fact many brides choose these pale pastels for their bridesmaids , not my favorite, but obviously that is a personal preference. I think that only the trolls tried to sell a story that wasn't there, and once again, speculating about people's feeling, and intentions is just another way to spread idle rumors. This obsession with painting these woman as enemies is just another maneuver of the tabloids, and the talking heads keep repeating conspiracy theories, please be kind and stop trying to get into their souls, they may not be the best of friends as it is the case amongs many in laws , they don't have to be BFFS, in order not to hate each other.
DeleteHappy Sunday!
**** I meant to write that palie. Yellow IS appropriate ... in my opinion.
Delete** again pale... can't type today ..... sorry!!
DeleteI agree with you on the surprising choice young royal XX made. Sure, it possibly was pale yellow, but still when there are such broad possibilities and options, it is an unusual selection to make. We all have a personal perspective on this, mine is that she should have known better. I respectfully say that. I will give said young royal the circumstance of hormones being what they always are so soon after giving birth. I remember very well how much they impacted me in the first weeks after (and therefore won’t rush to judge my preference notwithstanding). It’s just that in my mind there were so many alternatives....
DeleteBack to black... I believe that, again, it’s open to interpretation. Having lived in Italy for a while, I will say that Italians look at black different than everyone else (perhaps with the exception of New Yorkers). To them black IS a colour. Not just any colour, it is THE colour of elegance. I personally still continue to associate black with mourning, but it’s different when you live there. Megan certainly likes the colour and I don’t thank she offended anyone. Clearly others wore it and (if you look at the wedding pictures from the nuptials Princess Sophia attended) it’s in fact often chosen by brides for their bridesmaids. Wouldn’t be my choice, but it’s not a rare occurrence either. And Megan looks radiant and happy for her friend. Which is what matters to me most.
Lily A.
I live in Victoria, Australia and as a "Victorian" black is our go to "colour". Many women and men in Victoria don't own clothing in any other "colour" than black.
DeleteA bride choosing to dress members of her wedding party in whites or pastels is one thing, as it is a matter of choice, her choice. When guests decide to dress in bridal hues (not pastel pinks, blues or even yellow) but shades of ivory, or a buttercup yellow, so soft that it reads as white/off-white, it is in my opinion in bad taste no matter who the guest is.
The particular person I was referring to was the Duchess of Cambridge, and the Duchess is of considerable means, so not being able to fit into an outfit, not being able to get an appropriate outfit at the last moment wasn't an issue, any designer, boutique or department store would have bent over backward to dress Catherine on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Wedding day.
The Duchess of Cambridge herself has been criticized for wear a stunning black ensemble to a wedding. I thought the outfit and the shoes magnificent, Catherine has also worn many other pale ensembles to weddings, however none have photographed anywhere near the colour of the ensemble that was worn to Prince Harry and Megan Markle's wedding.
Not being a mind reader, I do not know if it was a careless or unfortunate choice, however it was a very poor choice in my opinion. Was is malicious, don't know. Do I think it might of sparked of some speculation in the media, yep!
Even colours can be difficult: green - envy, red - you've had sex with the groom, yellow - cholera on board ... Just a few exemples.
ReplyDeleteMargot
Hahaha. Never heard these before. The only wedding "rules" I have ever heard were that green was meant to be unlucky and that one shouldn't wear white for fear of outshining the bride. These would worry me as I wore red (with black!) to my son's wedding.........
DeleteI know brides who have got married in pink, champagene, etc...so nonsense.
DeleteMeghan has a wonderful taste, simple and chique. Again during this wedding she is wearing a fantastic dress
ReplyDeleteMeghan has a wonderful taste, simple and chique. Again during this wedding she is wearing a fantastic dress
ReplyDeleteI agree. That dress looks beautiful as far as we can see from this pictures. - Siri
DeleteImo black is no problem for a wedding. BUT I start to expect nothing else from her just and only and everytime black... this is not a problem either, if she likes is, although she was sensational in fiji blue. But the real problem is since they married I can hardly remember she wore affordable clothes or recycled any of them. (This Valentino for instance is £9k) As a keen reader of dailymail british people don't really put their thumbs up for this lavish lifestyle. Personally I think it is weird either. And maybe this is the cause the many negative comments she gets.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Szilvia. People criticise her behaviour. Not her background. (But of course I already know who will be at my throat...)
DeleteAgree with you Szilvia.
DeleteWell Szilvia, the problem here is that the name of either Meghan or Catherine sells tabloids.
DeleteReality check, the royals have a tremendously expensive lifestyle, and it doesn't apply to clothing only, but some of them don't make it into the pictures because nobody cares. Also Catherine, whom I like tremendously spends an incredible amount of money on designer labels, purses and shoes, and she has only started recycling as of late... let's be serious here... Never have the people cared about how much money these people spend on their little hobbies until the new and plebeians made it into the family, and by the way they have one of the biggest fortunes in the world, accumulated throughout their reign, mostly from savvy investments due to their influence, so let them spend it as the wish, or vote them out.
Sorry for the typos... on a hurry!
CB
I know that Prince William and his family comes before Prince Harry and his family in succeeding to the throne therefor the budget is not the same. Look at CP Mary of Denmark and her sister in low P Marie there is much difference in their designer labels, despite of Princess Marie comes from a wealthy family I believe .
DeleteThe expensive Valentino dress adds nothing to Meghan I think. It makes her look wider from the back as I can see. The make up and the hair style are nice.
ReplyDeleteTimes have changed as well as dress codes for weddings. Ten years ago I attended a sunset wedding and many of the guests were dressed in beautiful black dresses and accessories were stunning. The DoS looks lovely. Her dress is light and airy with gold embellishments making it look gorgeous. Of course Harry is alway well turned out.
ReplyDeleteMeghan's outfit reminds me so some of those fish living in the darkness of the deep sea which have lights blinking around them. I'm not very keen on the design. To me it's typical Valentino - always too much of everything. Christine
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of this dress at all, too much bling and fuss. There is nothing nicer than sleek, clean lines. Ivanka Trump looked incredible, she looked so graceful and was all class
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
DeleteIvanka’s dress had pleating and was worn with a cape- not really sleek, clean.
DeleteIvanka's cream peachy dress was rather spectacular, but have you guys seen the one she wore for the party? A gold, fringed mini dress, that belonged to her mother back in 70's , it was hideous, which goes to prove that we all make faux passes in fashion, although Meghan's Valentino is. 10 in my book
Delete@Christine, good observation, the dress is reminiscent of deep see creatures with luminous spots on their fins...probably the actual inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMeghan is out of the country, off duty and at a private event. There is very little of the dress in view, but that has not stopped the critics from determining how she looks from head to toe. If her husband can afford it she can wear it. ..and we know he has the money. This has nothing to do with representation of the crown. Because of who she is, Valentino will loan her that dress. It is free publicity. Most designer dresses, are made in small sizes and this lady is a thin person who is carrying extra baby weight. To comment about her size is shallow. Belle.
I am a little sad to return from a trip out of town to another Meghan mess. I am not too sure how anyone can make a sound assessment of how Meghan looks in a dress when we cannot see her in. I think the only opinions that can be given are of the dress on the Valentino model or the little we can see of it on Meghan from the back. From the back, with a limited view, I think this dress looks fine. I can't possibly say any more without really seeing it on Meghan. It is lovely on the model, and looks to me like it would be very appropriate for the wedding. As for wearing black, Meghan seems to be in very good company. I know that the rules of fashion that I was taught, and yes I was taught, are no longer the same rules that apply to today's fashion. My mom taught us girls to dress properly and appropriately. Now in her 80s, she is the first to admit that times have changed and she asks us how clothes are worn now if she is not sure. My mom would be the first to say that it is alright to wear black to an evening wedding. She would wag her finger at a woman in a shade of white, but not black. Why Meghan is singled out, again, is beyond me. I will end by repeating what I have said before. Before commenting, please research a little. The information is very easy to find on reputable websites. Comments will then be based on facts, not stories to sell gossip rags.
ReplyDeleteI have the same opinions about Eugenie and Beatrice. There is nothing to see here. I hope all had a wonderful time at the wedding.
