On September 4, 2019, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands attended the launch of the National AI Junior course in Toldijk. The purpose of the course is to teach children the principles of artificial intelligence (AI). The National AI course, FutureNL and UpgradeNL developed the National AI Junior course to provide children between the ages of ten and fourteen with opportunity to experience the possibilities of AI on the basis of interactive assignments and examples from their real life experiences. The three organizations work together to make children enthusiastic about technology and to improve their technological skills. |
It’s absurd to wear such a big hat to a meeting with children. The poor girl in the back had to strain her neck to appear in the picture.
ReplyDeleteTo me again the large hat was not needed for this event
ReplyDeleteI like Maxima but the photos of her with that hat and jewelry, sitting in a school between pupils, remind me of a Monty Python-Movie.
ReplyDeleteAgree...this was not a more-is-more sort of occasion. I appreciate that Maxima wants to give folks their money's worth when they come out to see her, but a toned down look would have sufficed very nicely here.
DeleteHa ha, it is absurd indeed........ so out of place and out of touch.....

Keine trägt so schön Hut, wie Maxima!
ReplyDelete-Elisabeth-
ReplyDeleteI love her hat, jewels and enthusiasm. Not a fan of her dress but it fits her well. I’m sure the kids loved that she was outfitted like a Queen. That made the visit more special.
ReplyDeleteTrès belles jambes avec de ravissants escarpins dont j'aime beaucoup la couleur !!!
ReplyDeleteIt is never too early to get to know the main characteristics of the Queen this country likes very much. First, that she is a very friendly person with a heartwarming smile. Second, that she prefers giant hats (that also suit her very well). I think the concept of giant hats is not something that children have to be protected from :-))

Completely agree. Well said!

perhaps, she didn't get the memo. Not the right outfit for classroom
ReplyDeleteElisabeth (5.39PM): I agree with you! Even a'n "overload" of "jewels" still looks great on her, because she is the type. Picture-perfect.
ReplyDeleteI love the looks on the faces of the little girls :)
I find myself conflicted about this outfit, on the one hand these pictures look very incongruent to me, an overdressed woman looking like she is going to a plush wedding, amongst those kids sitting on their desks, on the other hand, maybe she thinks that she is giving the children a memorable image about what a queen looks like?
ReplyDeletePersonally I prefer the elegant, formal, and yet approachable that the other young royals ( Letizia, Mary, Catherine, Victoria etc.,) usually choose for these events.
Great fitting spiderweb dress. Like the combination of the hat, everything goes together well. The jewelry is stunning.
ReplyDeleteGreat fitting spiderweb dress. Like the combination of the hat, everything goes together well. The jewelry is stunning. also love the big smile.
ReplyDeleteHer outfit is beautiful but not for meeting kids in the classroom. She can do better f. ex. trousers with blouse and jacket and no hat.
ReplyDeleteI like everything about her today. Maxima is Maxima and this is how she dresses and this is how her people expect her to be - and she looks and wears her looks fabulously.
ReplyDeleteLike someone else above mentioned, I also think the kids would have been thrilled that she came to see them dressed to the nines - she is their Queen after all, and she showed them her respect by not compromising in her looks. They may be young school kids but she gave them her best, and that is to be admired.
(Of course, it's also possible that she may have had a second engagement afterwards.)
As far as fashion, I like it all. The colour, the hat, shoes and jewellery. The dress is quite lovely and it fits her beautifully. Well done.

Queen Máxima was in my son's classroom once upon a time. All the kids, teachers and parents were highly disappointed that she didn't wear the big hat and jewels we expected her to wear during the visit. For us she's just more 'queen'like with the big hat and jewels....
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 9.17PM: See, that's exactly what I thought (and I do not live in your beautiful country :) !!
DeleteI don't mind the outfit but it is inappropriate for the event. If she had only ditched the hat, gloves, and 1 or 2 jewelry she may have been dressed appropriate for the occasion. I will say I do appreciate her exuberance and that she looks engaged.

She needs to be the center of attention, even among children. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteCareful.... Jealousy showing!
DeleteCareful.... Jealousy showing!
DeleteShe is the center of attention, because she is the Queen, dear!
DeleteOh please… to criticise someone is not always jealousy.
DeleteHer look is fine I think. About the hat a matching headband would be more simple and elegant .
ReplyDeleteWell, she certainly is never lost in the crowd. Maybe she could find a few hats that would be a bit smaller and still grab attention? Or wear something like a tiara that would be sparkly and odd so it would make people happy to see her? How about big colorful scarves? Queen Elizabeth generally is in one color, hat and all, so people can see tiny her easily. Princess Beatrix wears a certain style hat almost always, and nobody else wears that style, but she doesn't eclipse every woman in sight.
ReplyDeleteThe gossamer looking fabric of the dress, the gloves and hat reduce the approachability factor for a visit with children. This seems to be a style of marketing with Maxima continuing her MIL's tradition with the hats. She is the only one of the younger group to employ/deploy them so frequently. Contrast this visit with one done by the others mentioned by Cherry B. @ 11:59 meow
ReplyDeleteLove Maxima and usually love her over the top hats but I'm afraid I have to agree that this one is completely out of place for the occasion. She could be in school among the children all glammed up "like a Princess" without being so extreme. The outfit is lovely and would be perfect teamed with a fascinator or smaller hat.
ReplyDeleteYou may not always like what she is wearing but the Queen is always so bubbly, vivacious, happy and so engaging. I think she looks terrific, school or no school. She sure livened thing up!
