On September 18, 2019, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands attended the third King Willem I lecture on entrepreneurship. The lecture took place at AFAS Software in Leusden and the registration for the biennial entrepreneurial awards of the King Willem I Foundation starts after that lecture. The King Willem I Award is seen as the Oscar for business owners in the Netherlands. The award is given every two years since 1958 by the King Willem I Foundation, with active support from the Nederlandsche Bank N.V. and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Queen Maxima of The Netherlands is the honorary chairman of the King Willem I Foundation. |
A whole lot of cheek filler going on......

Oh dear! Puzzling, to put it diplomatically... I hope this is just a phase for Max and that it will pass soon... Can somebody explain the black tassels on both sides of the dress? Not that that's the only issue with this dress, but it's the most bizarre in an overall bizarre outfit
ReplyDeleteYes agree, I was also wondering what is going on with her choices. MaryT
DeleteVery exciting! What happens if somebody pulls on those two black strings? Maybe the dress opens like a curtain and there is another one? :-)) Beautiful colour, nice dress - maybe too long - but the funniest detail are the magic strings.

DeleteOh, Anon 3:43, your comment, take[s] the cake:"......somebody pulls on those....."
No, Ann. If somebody pulls on the strings two Jack-in-the-box popp out of her ears, an angel on one side and a devil on the other.

DeleteCoralie............hahaha
Oh, this is certainly a lovely surprise! It is an eye-catching color, imaginatively designed with the three tiers and tassel-tied belt. I like the black accessories, too. No over-powering hat is need to catch attention. Her hair is neatly combed and arranged. She looks very "queenly!"
ReplyDeleteOMG, that dress! What else is she going to come up with?
ReplyDeleteA strange choice for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what to make of this. It definitely gives me a 1970’s vibe. (Not a good one). And the black tassels are just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteOh no........ I think she bought it in Greece.... Her hair..... at official occasions, like yesterday completely blond.... to many extensions and unnatural for her, because its to obvious... Maybe look at CP Mary of Queen Letitzia to learn that 'simple' clothes look bests.. and elagant... Or at MT of Luxembourg, which looks very young and good with her elegant clothing and hairstyle. Bit of a midlife crisis?!
ReplyDeleteI can't help it; I actually like this look. The colour is stunning and I love the pattern too. Perhaps the layers and strings (or whatever they might be) are a bit much, but I think she pulls it off!
ReplyDeleteAt least far better than dozens of stiff, creased and ill-fitting Natans!
I agree. I like it as well.
DeleteLily A
it would have been a nice dress if there were no strings and the bottom half of the dress
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that her hair looks better and her face is a bit different. The dress is strange with those 3 tiers and belt with tassels? seriously?
ReplyDeleteNice color dress, the top part looks good, but the skirt part I don't know?.
ReplyDeleteI had high hopes when I saw the top of the dress but then I saw a full length shot and gave up. Too many tiers and tassels...no, no, no. I don't know what to say anymore. Also agree that her face is different
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes her hair is a mess and we all wonder what the hell she was thinking while dressing, but Max always has this unbelievable smile, looks genuinely interested and caring. I give her 100% for that smile alone.
ReplyDeleteMake this a two-tiered skirt to just below the knee, cut the dangling ropes off, and it would be a better look. /Julie/
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree!
DeleteI actually like this dress, even the tassels look charming, the problem is that it should be worn with flat sandals and possibly some flowers on your head... I am joking of course... if the middle tier was eliminated it could be very stunning, in any event, much better than yesterday's Nathan's fiasco.
ReplyDeleteI do agree. The dress is too big as well, especially the upper part and sleeves. IMO she can wear it with heels but these should be sandalettes. Overall problem as always is that Maxima does not seem to have a very good dress sense of her own and would be better of with a stylist.

I Loved the look of the dress when I could only see the top of it. Lovely colour and pattern. Not so keen on the 70s style tiered skirt but could just about live with it until I saw the tassles. Pity because it had the potential to be a lovely dress if it had a plainer skirt.
ReplyDeleteI like the color and print of the dress but the tassels are confusing. If the tassels where eliminated and the dress was chopped to a mid- length- it would look better. I like her earrings.

This is far less offensive than a lot of what Maxima usually wears. I like the color and the print. This dress has a boho feel to me and I would love to see it in a more relaxed setting. The best thing about it to me is that it is not too tight or voluminous, both problems Maxima struggles with.
ReplyDeleteA big smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteThat's means, it not my taste, but it gave me a good smile.
So we'll done.
Great color/print. Too many peplums. Always awesome Max smile! Note to self: limit one's tassels to drapery ties or magic carpets.
