Oh, my goodness. This outfit is a joke, right? The hairpiece is kind of cute - very fanciful, and her hair is neatly combed. Instead of those too-long culottes, I'd have had a skirt slightly below the knees. The view of the culottes from behind is not good. Shirt sleeves dangling droopily form the too-short jacket are sad. Photographers managed to catch her with a pensive look rather than her effervescent smile. Not the usual Maxima appearance.

DeleteI'm sorry, but I really don´t like this outfit, a total miss. The hat does not combine well with the trouser suit, which moreover seems to be very crumpled and the trousers do not fit well. Really ugly!

DeleteI actually like the hat -- for me it comes down on the "pretty" side of a rather thin line between pretty and outlandish :-). The outfit's cream color is lovely and the jacket and blouse are perfect, love them. The pants, though -- no matter how trendy they may be -- just look terrible. Wrinkled, for sure, but that is the least of the problems. The way their volume in front continues the line of the jacket, creating a tent-like look, is imo terribly unflattering. I don't think even Mary or Letizia could make this outfit work. I hope that sometime we'll see Maxima pair the jacket with well-fitting, full-length trousers or a slim skirt.
ReplyDeleteJane, I do agree with your assessment above, except for the headpiece, I find it OK for the Derby, or maybe combined with a very simple almost stark outfit, and the strands of hair in the back are just bad.....
DeleteI know culottes are trendy, and a few women can get away with wearing them with the right shoes and complements, but the fabric and top scream formal, and somewhat old fashioned, why, why add these pants?? All in all a total disaster IMO.

Ich würde mir wünschen, die Rüschenbluse, das Jäckchen und die Culotte in Zukunft in Kombination mit anderen Stücken aus ihrer Kleiderkammer zu sehen. Da ließe sich was machen. Die Untertanen hatten wieder Spaß und ich habe es auch immer, wenn ich die charismatische Maxima sehe. Ach so: der König...sieht fesch aus. Der Bart tut viel für seine Ausstrahlung in meinen Augen.
ReplyDeleteThe pants are a complete fail. While the jacket isn’t my favorite it would look better with a skirt or basically any other pants. Her hair looks great and I do like her hat and the idea of this monochrome look- it just failed in execution.

The only piece i will save from this outfit is the jacket, the culottes and blouse don't work together. And those shoes with the big bows on the side. Not good.

ReplyDeleteOh dear...this is awful on so many levels. I will be the first to admit that I don't know much about hats/fascinators. My preference is always something simple. When I say I don't care for this headpiece, my opinion comes from this perspective. It looks silly to me, but what do I know? The rest of the outfit I can comment on with some confidence. To begin with, the fabric is terrible. One would think that Natan would take into account how much Maxima wears from their line and design accordingly. The wrinkles are excessive. I have a strong desire to take the jacket and press the seams for her. Maybe that was the desired look, but I think it looks like the person stitching the jacket's seams missed a step. The culottes are ill-fitting. There are flattering styles to be sure, but I am not sure who these would look good on. Maxima already has a little bit of a tummy, and this design has pleats adding to an area that she should try to minimize. By contrast, the back of the culottes are riding up, and the design is making her derrière look very flat. There is volume on top and bottom, hiding her shape. In addition to all of that going on, there is a very fussy blouse and bows on her shoes. It is very Maxima, and she probably loves it. Me, not so much.

I think the only thing I like here is the hat *but* not with this outfit. This hat/fasinator would be fab with a simple dress at a wedding or Easter Sunday; not for a royal "business" function. It's too much - and yes, I know Max's dress code is the definition of "too much" but this headpiece is just out of place here.
