On August 1, 2019, Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko traveled to Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture to spend their summer holiday at Suzaki Imperial Villa. About 250 people welcomed the imperial family at Shimoda Station. The royals greeted well-wishers for about 30 minutes. Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako and Princess Aiko then went to Suzaki Imperial Villa to spend a few days. |
I think there will be comments regarding Princess Aikos outfit - if it is "age-appropriate" or not - but I find her adorable.
ReplyDeleteTrying not to stray too far from the purpose of this blog but, in general I give Aiko a pass. Heaven only knows the pressures this young lady has been under since day one ("You should have been a boy. Every thing would have gone smoothly if you had just been a boy." I'm not attributing that quote to any one in particular but more to the political climate of this dynasty). If she's healthy and happy and comfortable in this outfit then she looks beautiful.
DeleteIt is NOT age appropriate, it is an outfit for a child not a teenager.
DeleteThe purple and cream casual outfit is beautiful and accentuates the Empress' beautiful complexion. Her handbag is perfect a perfect match. Her gorgeous earrings are very unlike her typical pearl jewelry. Princess Aiko looks very nice too in her pink dress which coordinates well with her mother's.
ReplyDeleteColor marfil y azul marino, buena combinación, lo mejor de todo, pero, su sonrisa y predisposición.
ReplyDeleteWow. This is what I was waiting for. Empress Masako looks fab!
ReplyDeleteThat Aubergine coloured jacket with the cream trousers (perfect length too) looks great, and her height and figure serve this style very well.
Glad to see that they are less rigid and more contemporary with they dress styles in private than on official duty. Well done.
Princess Aiko looks sweet as well. Not a very youthful style of outfit though, but she's smiling and happy. Can't tell if that's lace or eyelet, but it's a pretty summer pink.

She looks dowdy
DeleteAgree with both parts.
DeleteEmpress Masako looks so stylish...Princess Aiko...oh my god
ReplyDeleteMaria, I could not express myself better than you did...
DeleteI adore them! Seeing as Aiko will (unfortunately) not be empress, I do hope she's given the opportunity to go abroad for studies or travelling or whatever she wants. Her mother had an amazing career prior to getting married, and since the princesses lose their royal status upon marriage, I hope Aiko can find something she loves to do.
ReplyDeleteSince this is a fashion blog, um... The Emperor looks great, as does the Empress. There's something about Aiko's outfit that's off to me (on one hand it reads old, but I know it's age appropriate. Maybe it's the lace? Or the bag?)
it is very old-fashioned
DeleteI think it is the collar, mainly. It makes Aiko look little-girlish, when I believe she is 17. A boat or scoop neckline would have made a world of difference; however as another commenter said, "give her time". She may not be making her own decisions about her wardrobe.
DeleteAgree with the unanimous accolades for Masako's stunning look. Perfection, down to the delicate note provided by the lovely gossamer scarf.
Lovely outfit for the Emperor - very stylish. Princess Aiko is still a child - she seems sweet, the pink is nice even if the style is a bit old-fashioned. Give her time.
ReplyDeletePrincess Aiko is dressed like a child, but is 17 or 18 (born in 2001).
DeleteShe is 17 and has led a very sheltered life. So yes, in my book she is still child in many ways. To be frank I don't think she is dressed like a child, I think the style is more dowdy old lady in childish colours. I still think she has time to find her own style.
DeleteShe is most certainly not allowed to choose her own outfits
DeleteThe Empress looks absolutely glowing. She was under such pressure for so many years but she has just blossomed into this role and she looks like she was born to do this. So happy for her finally and love that she is able to get out among the people. I just hate all that she missed for so many years. I don’t know if it was so much of an adjustment disorder or just the pressure she was being given by the courtiers and family.
ReplyDeleteLovely family, dressed appropriately for leaving on a summer holiday.
ReplyDeleteFamily togetherness, lovely. Empress Masako looks elegant as always.Pss Aiko is almost as tall as her mother.

ReplyDeleteOMG! The Empress has on a pair of stylish pants and not a pearl or chamber pot hat in sight! :-0 This is real progress people! LOL! She looks lovely and modern. Well done.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to see Masako happy and beautiful. Perfect outfut.
ReplyDeleteWow I love the Empress’s outfit. Colour, fit, accessories - everything is perfect. P. Aiko looks very sweet here. It’s an awkward age isn’t it? She reminds me a bit of Louise, D. Sophie’s daughter who’s gradually transitioning into more “grown up” clothing. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteEsta familia está muy atrasada en cuanto a vestuario. La mayoría de las japonesas no visten asi.
ReplyDeleteThe princess's outfit is perfectly in style in Japan. She is top of fashion. Remember folks, it is an eastern country. They are very westernized so some dont understand why it's not like the European fashion. I've lived there. It is VERY different so dont judge based upon western standards.
ReplyDeleteMasako has never looked better. After so many dark years struggling with adjustment disorder, she seems to have found her former confident and gracious self again. Aubergine is a great color for her and the gossamer scarf is a softly beautiful accent. I hope that Masako is able to help Aiko choose clothes that enhance her better in the future. The ruffled waist is unfortunate for Aiko's body type and the baby pink color is not the best with her coloring. A good haircut and escape from the severe line of bangs might also help.
ReplyDeleteNew emperor family seems fun, doesn't it? It was heard from a friend of Japanese residence, since a new dynasty starts in this May, but the schedule of new emperor and empress is snow-white, and maybe every day is a holiday. This vacation is called "vacation during a vacation", and on the other hand, the younger brother's Crown Prince family is busy with public duties every day by all the family members, and a schedule book is almost full.Everyone sympathizes.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Masako's eyebrows? It's huge!
