On July 4, 2019, The Duchess of Sussex watched Serena Williams on court one on day four of the Wimbledon 2019 Championships at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. The Duchess of Sussex was at the sporting event to support her friend Serena Williams. (The Duchess wore a cotton blend blazer by L'Agence.) |

DeleteSmart navy jeans are fine and worn by many. People just dress normally unless in the Royal Box.
DeleteThe hat is fine for a summer's day - I've seen plenty of people wearing these sorts of hats at Wimbledon. There was nobody immediately behind anyway.
Perfect outfit for Wimbledon. Subdued but elegant. Love the hat.
ReplyDeleteAgree, she looks good and styly is perfect for Wimbledon.
DeleteDie beiden Damen an ihrer Seite sind zwei Studien-Freundinnen (Northwestern University). Ob eine von ihnen Taufpate wird?
ReplyDelete-Elisabeth-
Smart outfit, typically her style. Like how she looks genuinely happy and enjoying herself!
ReplyDeleteIs this a joke?
ReplyDeleteNope. She looks good. You a joke?
DeleteAnonymous at 3.27 AM: you are rude. Maybe Mildred just has another opinion about Fashion.
DeleteI don't think that today's Meghan's Wimbledon-outfit is Royal- or Wimbledon-like at all.
I like her post-prgnancy-look.
Deletei think she is there unofficially. so she can wear casual
DeleteWhat is, according to you, a joke, Mildred?
DeleteI understand what Mildred is saying, when you are in the royal box, you are supposed to dress a certain way. Gentlemen are requested to wear ties and ladies wear formal wear. So when a member of the royal family shows up in jeans it raises eyebrows. Its like paying for First Class and showing up in t-shirts and jeans. Lets just be grateful they were not ripped jeans :-)
Deleteshe is not in the royal box, but then again this is wimbledon, a prestigious event in British royal history. Members of the royal family dress like ladies
DeleteIf this is a joke...it is a bad one.
DeleteWell jeans in first class is the norm these days;just add a bit of Chanel No 5 and mink coat;that's what I do.
DeleteI like this nice relaxed look for Meghan. Yes, her blazer is tighter in the shoulders than when she wore it before her pregnancy. I've seen other pictures, and when she is walking in, it doesn't look as tight. For the few hours she wore it, I don't know that it would have been worth spending money on another. She is also wearing plack pumps with her jeans. Most importantly, it is nice to see her out and having a fun time with friends to watch Serena.
ReplyDeleteAs usual Meghan misses the mark with her outfits. She is dressed far too casually for Wimbledon IMO. She could have at least worn a pair of trousers rather than skinny jeans and a blazer that barely fits her. Hair is messy, hat looks silly and she is wearing way too much bronzer. Bronzer should just add a warm glow not look like somebody painted your cheeks even from a distance. Not a good look.
ReplyDeleteAgree about the bronzer - way too much. Don’t mind the jeans though, this is her style and she wasn’t there in an official capacity (as far as I know).
DeleteI guess these are her biggest trousers and she doesn't want to buy a new for just one month until she lost some pounds.
DeleteDress code foe Wimbledon is not so strict as it use to be. Jeans are allowed now even on central stadium. I think one should know the dress code if you want to critize somebody not followig it or not.
Delete-Siri
Siri, you are correct. There is no rule against denim. They only frown upon ripped denim. It is very easy to look up the dress code for players and the 'unspoken rules' for spectators (apparently there is no actual dress code) except for centre court, the royal box, and some hospitality areas. As for hats, of course they are worn, even necessary. They are just not allowed in the royal box.
DeleteI think it is delicate to comment on the bronzer, she is not a pure white skin person. So the effect might be different on her. A bronzer might not be necessary, even she likes to appear sun tanned
DeleteNice relaxed look on Meghan, very simple.
ReplyDeleteIt is great look for an afternoon of watching tennis with long time college friends. She is not at the Royal Box so that casual look is okay.
ReplyDeleteAgree, well said.
DeleteI too think she looks just fine.
ReplyDeleteShe's not on official duty nor as other posters have mentioned, is she at the Royal Box.
She is neatly and stylishly attired and looks like thousands of everyday women of her age and genre. Any slight ill-fit of the clothes (and it is only slight) due to post-pregnancy weight is quite excusable.
My friend sat near Meghan and she said she was just so nice ;and she looked casual and was certainly enjoying herself. She wasn't in the royal box,as Kate was the other day.
ReplyDeleteOf course she wasn't in the Royal Box. There is no Royal Box on Court 1.
DeletePeople criticising the look for being too casual need to remember that she was on court no. 1 not at the royal box on centre court. She went there to support her and wasn’t invited by the club not there in an official capacity. She looks simple and sweet.

ReplyDeleteShe looks great. Perfect for yesterday's warm sunny day.
ReplyDeleteUnless in the royal box there is no requirement look like you are attending a garden party - the smart casual look is fine and sported by many spectators.
Clearly she ignores all rules,
ReplyDeleteNo hats at Wimbleton
JC, it is a sun protection hat! Don't mix up everything, please
DeleteYou could google the pictures from Wimbledon, you will see a lot of hats.
DeleteJC; Actually they even sell those panama hats at Wimbledon. Many people are having them, also before Pippa Middleton.
DeleteClearly she ignores all rules,
ReplyDeleteNo hats at Wimbleton
Jeans?!
ReplyDeleteI would not call tall stilts relaxed and casual for Wimbledon …… a pair of sneakers would have been
ReplyDeletesuitable to her other outfit !
Having fun AND looking good. I hope she will stay true to herself and totally ignore all those who seem to know what a Duchess should or should not do, should wear, should behave, should live, love etc.
ReplyDeleteElenor
Meghan is certainly glowing post pregnancy. Lovely to see her looking so happy and relaxed, nice outfit, although I am not a huge fan of heels with jeans, however, I feel her ensemble is appropriate for Wimbledon as Meghan is a Duchess not the Queen of England.
ReplyDeleteI think, that when you, belongs to a certain family, beyond you seat on the Royal Box or not..you should look regal anyway..and you can wear a casual look but.....more classy.
ReplyDeleteCarme, meine volle Zustimmung.
DeleteMona
Totally agree. A Duchess is always a Duchess and should dress herself accordingly, whether in the Royal Box or not.
Delete@Anon 6.31pm Well here's a surprise for you: This is what a young, modern 37 yo Duchess who is living in the 21st century dresses like. And it's perfectly fine. Many more will do the same. Princesses too.
Delete"...should dress herself accordingly." Please, tell us how a duchess is supposed to dress? Is there a dress code especially for duchesses? lol.
Every family is special, therefore we should all dress classy at all times. Every woman is either a Queen or a Duchess of her own home.
DeleteTrue, she was not in the Roxal Box. But wherever she is, she is member of the Royal Family and has a title (unlike for example Zara), so if she agreed to have that title and be part of the Royal Family, she should accept some basic rules as to how to appear *anywhere*. A casual look is absolutely fine with me, but (for example) an obviously much too small blazer with wrinkles everywhere is not. As for the jeans, there are so many other casual options to wear!
ReplyDeleteExakt!
DeleteWell said.
DeleteHaving a title doesn't mean a lot. Zara may not have a title, but by birth she is more royal than Megan will ever be.
DeleteThere are no '...basic rules about how to appear *anywhere*...' by the Royal family. Just common sense. As long as you are neatly and smartly dressed, not vulgar, and dressed appropriate to the occasion you are fine. Meghan meets all this criteria perfectly. She was not on official duty, she is still on mat leave and was minding her own business and enjoying time with her friends (she is allowed to do that you know, all of them are), not representing anyone or any family in an official capacity. She is a relatively minor royal in the grand scheme of things.
"Not suitable for Wimbledon" - I have never been to Wimbledon and media shows photos only from the royal box. Many comments are very sure what is acceptable whereas I find it impossible to say what is "normal" outside the royal box.
ReplyDeleteMeghan is on her maternity leave, which allows her also to go outside her house to get some fresh air and see something she likes. What Meghan wears, is totally ok for the occasion. (I would have chosen shoes with low heels, but that's the way I always do)
You know what I actually start to think?
ReplyDelete'Poor Meghan. Whatever she does and whatever she wears, it's never right...'
Exactly what I think too.
DeleteLouise
You‘re right. This dicussion is not fair. I often see Harry and Meghan critically but that‘s absurd grunts.
DeleteAgree with your statement Rosalyn.
DeleteI think this look is perfectly OK, nothing high fashion, just a casual outfit to enjoy a game and spend a little time with friends. It's OK not to like it, but it seems to me that people make up non existent rules just to prove that somehow she is inadequate, and by reading some comments one would think that she somehow is wearing something outrageous to the discredit of the RF, and I completely disagree. Kate has worn skinny jeans ( rather tight) on many official events and the usual experts weren't running for the salts :-) I am starting to agree with Rosalyn, for some she would never do right...

ReplyDeleteMeghan is not on official duty here and can wear whatever she likes. Those saying no hats at Wimbledon probably never watched a match. At Roland Garros almost everyone wears the hat. Same players, different country and people can dress casual.
ReplyDeleteAs for maternity leave: you can't have the cake and eat it. Maternity leave is *private*, but Wimbledon is a *public* place where you know you will be photographed from every angle. If she really wants to be private, she can go for a walk in the woods. But she cannot be private in Wimbledon, and she knows it very well. She has chosen this life, she cannot ignore the rules. Remember the DoC last summer, she was on maternity leave as well - she was not overdone, but decently dressed: https://whatkatewore.com/2018/06/10/another-zara-dress-for-kate-as-george-charlotte-play-at-polo-match/. And no, I am no Meghan-hater :-)
ReplyDeleteI would just like to point out that in the same post you shared it was highlighted that two years previous, at the same event, the DoC wore jeans, boat shoes, and a breton shirt. Let's stay consistent here if you intend on making comparisons.
DeleteIn short, the rule is that everytime she steps out the door she represents the family and should be dressed to impress. If everyone observed that 'rule' ...
DeleteI like the blazer shoes and top, not keen on the jeans, but she looked good anyway. Did like her hair and smile.
ReplyDeleteI read that she rework her ring. Is it true?
ReplyDeleteNo as far as we know through media. Harry did, just like many other English royal husbands, incl. Charles and William.
Delete-Siri
It's the same ring I think.
Deleteagain all what the press writes is not true, some videas posted on youtube are even worse. That is a pity.
Delete@Trudy, who says she wanted to be private? Why do you assume that she considered this private?I think the word is Non-official, she didn't hide, smiled to the photographers, and behaved in a most natural manner... I don't see any evidence of her trying to " eat her cake too", where does she show any displeasure? Can this woman go to see a friend play tennis? She is on maternity leave from official duties, but not forbidden to go out with some friends, and but I don't see her wearing dark glasses and running thru the streets (like Diana used to do) to hide... it seems to me that you are projecting some of your ideas here.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Cherry Blossom!
DeleteFrom time to time I prefer a honest style instead of a perfect style.
ReplyDelete******@ Trudy, my apologies, my comment was directed to Anonymous 7:06***********
ReplyDeleteThe jeans surprised me - Just because you 'can' doesn't mean should 'should'. I think it was a mistake.
ReplyDeleteShe looks okay and nothing more. I have a hard time with this woman because she seems to enjoy the perks of being a royal but delights in not following the rules. She has millions of dollars at her disposal a dress would have been more appropriate.
