On July 29, 2019, Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the opening ceremony of the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2019 (IGARSS 2019) held at Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. The 39th annual IGARSS symposium is recognized today as a premier event in remote sensing. |
Masako looks very elegant here. Very fresh.
ReplyDeleteWow, I agree: tres chic, Madame!
DeleteAgree too! I think she looks way more happy, relaxed and confident since she became Empress. It really looks like she is enjoying her new role and definitely able to break more free from behind the walls of the palace.
DeleteLovely outfit, smart, fresh color blocking in a different style.
ReplyDeleteThey make a lovely couple.
ReplyDeleteEmpress Masako is elegant.
I love her outfit, hate the hat.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteVery lovely outfit. like the cut of the jacket. White and navy very nice. Both look relaxed, love Empress Masako's smile.
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart look for Masako! She's always perfectly turned out, but this is especially nice.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful suit and the Empress looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteSuperbe couple impérial plein de complicité sur la dernière photo...
ReplyDeleteShe looks great! I really like this outfit but navy and white has always been a favorite color combination for me.
ReplyDeleteI also have a theory about her hats and why they are all the same shape and size (just different colors). I’ve been thinking they’re sort of a “security blanket” for her and something to sort of hide behind, so to speak (sort of the same way Princess Diana use to hide behind her hair falling in front of her face). However, after having seen more photos of her now I don’t think that’s it; or at least not all of it. She's obviously taller than the Emperor, and although it's silly imo, many people – especially men - still have “issues” with a woman being taller than her husband [insert my eye roll here.] The size, shape, and placement of this type of hat keeps her from towering over her husband. Think about it; can you imagine if she had on four inch heels and one of Max's huge hats standing next to the emperor? LOL! He would like a school boy standing next to her. ;D Appearances are everything in traditional Japan and the wife should be discreet and demure next to the husband.
I think you have a very good point there, it certainly makes sense to me
DeleteI agree with you and I also think she likes “the look” that the hat gives her. I am so happy to see her happy that she can wear whatever she wants as long as she has that beautiful smile on her face .
DeleteThat is a reasonable explanation for the mystery of the single style of hat. I do hope that Masako will experiment with other types of small, elegant hats that add nearly no height, such as the one Doria Ragland wore to H & M's wedding. That sort of hat would look lovely on her.
DeleteI agree with you Unknown, on all your points. I'm very happy for her too.

This style of hat still reminds me of the old chamber pots of my childhood and girlhood. I am 83 now but haven't forgotten them. .
DeleteI love the way her style has evolved since she became Empress, albeit slowly, from the incredibly traditional outfits into something a bit more modern. She also looks as if she's enjoying the role which is surely the most important thing
ReplyDeleteLovely woman, she seems so happy now. I have followed her since they were married, her struggles were heartbreaking. I hope the two of them can change some of the overly stiff protocol of the royal house.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteShe looks lovely! There’s a real twinkle in her eye when she smiles that is wonderful to see. I think Anon 9:46 might be right about the choice of hats. It will be interesting to see if her choices change when she’s out on engagements without the emperor. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteTotally off subject here but have they changed the law yet so his daughter can inherit???
ReplyDeleteI don't believe the law has been changed in that regard. And I don't think that is necessarily a terrible thing. Hopefully, Princess Aiko is being encouraged to explore her interests and talents and to create a beautiful life for herself, rather than be miserable and resentful over not being in line for the throne.
