On June 3, 2019, Queen Elizabeth II hosted a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump who are making a 3 day State Visit to United Kingdom. The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Duke of York and Princess Anne attended the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace. (The Duchess of Cambridge wore a bespoke ruffled gown by Alexander McQueen.) |
This was clearly a coordinated act, all three top royal ladies in white. With Kate and Camilla, the red and blue of the sash white the white makes a patriotic msg so does the rubies and blue sash for the queen. Kate looks AMAZING, very queenly.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteThe queen almost always wear white to white tie events and the same for Camilla as for Kate she’s joining the white dress gang...... the First Lady dress is beautiful but I feel like the dress is too modern to wear a white gloves...
ReplyDeleteVous avez raison, les gants longs perdent leur charme . La princesse de Cambridge est très bien sans collier ,le décolleté de sa robe est superbe.
DeleteElegance overload, it's glorious :-) I find myself loving Princess Anne's gown; for me it's got a bit of a Regency vibe. As for the other ladies in white, well, they all look splendid. Love the queen's rubies. Sophie's gown is graceful, flattering and a beautiful color (deep periwinkle??). Well done all around!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen Tiffany's dress? Lovely ladies in white.
ReplyDeleteI almost did not recognise Tiffany! She is a now a beautiful Plus Plus Size, wearing a red satin gown.
DeleteSome nice gowns but so disappointed in the lack of colour. Sophie of Wessex has a lovely blue dress and the Duchess of Gloucester is also in blue. Princess Anne's dress looked better in the television coverage--in this picture it looks dreadful. Even the usually elegant Princess Alexandra has a somewhat shapeless silver grey. I have to concede that the Duchess of Cambridge looks gorgeous and very regal and I like the First Lady's dress too. US/UK diplomatic dressing I thought would give some glorious bright blues and vibrant reds. Disappointing.
ReplyDeleteWell done by the royal ladies and Mrs. Trump, but what on earth was Theresa May thinking? Horrible dress especially with her posture. The dress could have been okay on a younger lady with good posture, but this is not very flattering at all. I agree that Melania would have been better without the gloves.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with you regarding Theresa May. As someone of the same age one thing I know is don’t expose too much skin!
DeleteOn the fence about all the ruffles on Catherine's dress, though she is lovely, not my taste. Camilla needs to stop mimicking the queen in white (again personal opinion) and Sophie looks especially lovely. The trump children are overshadowed and the youngest daughter looks as if she's stuffed into the red gown (not pictured here) it was definitely not her best style.
ReplyDeleteI think if she had worn more supportive undergarments the top half of the dress would have looked better. Instead, her chest looks flat and frumpy. It looks like a 1950’s vintage dress.
DeleteAgree with Southernbelle.
DeleteSo here we go!
ReplyDeleteThe gowns of Camilla and Melania are simple but elegant, the fabric of the Queen's dress looks beautiful and her tiara is stunning! I only would've left Melania's gloves safely at home 🙈
Sophie is very nice too, well-fitting, lovely colour. Elegant!
Usually I'm not a fan of ruffled gowns, but these on Kate's dress are subtle and not like used curtains 😜 The dress is beautiful, very graceful cut and she looks confident and relaxed.
The only one I really do not like is Theresa May's. It looks like a strange cut with a deep neck and weird shoulders. Sorry!
Gloves are welcome said the white tie dress code. Too long, to short, wrong material - she wears no oven gloves with curry - I wish I could understand.
DeleteO sorry Anon 7:05, but I'm afraid I don't understand exactly what you mean. I know gloves are allowed, but I simply didn't like them because the fabric looks thick and it makes her arms look big or even bulky. But that is just my opinion ;-)
DeleteMy sincere thanks for your help.
DeleteI agree with you Rosalyn about the gloves. they looked a bit weird and tried to ruin Melanias nice outfit.
DeleteYou are very welcome, Anon 11:31 😊
DeleteSophie's dress is very flattering on her, Melania's dress looks good too. I'm not big fan of Kate's ruffles. Queen and Camilla ok: business as usual.
ReplyDeletePrincess Alexandra's dress was the prettiest. The Grand Winner so far in my humble opinion for appearances at a British State Banquet is Queen Letizia for the Spanish vist. That red dress was so super spectacular that I doubt it will EVER be beat. She positively knocked the ball out of the park. 2nd runner up was Queen Maxima in her beautiful blue dress with the Stuart tiara. Just my humble opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that Alexandras dress was very lovely :-)
Deleteand I absolutly agree with you about Letizia and Maxima, their outfits were sooooo fantastic, thanks for reminding me on these great styles.
P. Trump needs advice on length of white under vest...Nice to see all at the dinner.
ReplyDeleteIt is the usual problem; if it is wide enough, it often gets too long.. ;-)
DeletePlusieurs américains ont aussi un problème de longueur avec leur gilet mais le président est vraiment le chef des mal habillés.
DeleteBeautiful gowns! I know she is not blue blooded but I really miss Ivanka Trump's qown. It was very beautiful either. @mary m kansas: absolutely agree considering queen Laetizia!
ReplyDeleteAgree about Ivanka’s dress, it is dreamy!!
DeleteFirst Lady Melania und Herzogin Catherine beide einfach bezaubernd schön !!
ReplyDeleteLove the Look of the first Lady and happy to see them interacting with deep interest.
ReplyDeleteMelania was stunning -- without jewels. Catherine looked beautiful and I liked her gown. But Inthink Melania outshine them all tonight.
ReplyDeleteIt looked like Melania had diamond clips on the back of her head.
DeletePresident Trump´s waistcoast is too long, or his jacket too short, or both.
ReplyDeleteMelania looks fantastic. I don´t mind her opera gloves as such, but they have an odd length. They should reach beyond the elbow, I think.
The queen looks like always. Perfectly fine, but very predictable.
Same applies to Camilla.
I like Kate´s dress. It has a very nice shape. I´m not crazy about tiers and ruffles, and there are a lot of those, but they are small enough so they don´t bother me. In fact, I thought that the ruffles, especially in the bodice, are good to make her look a bit less fragile.
Sophie looks lovely. Had been even better with an horizontal waistline instead of that curved one.
Teresa May looks atrocious. Maybe symptomatic for where she´s at politically.
Quite a few dresses here are a tad too long, and that would include Melania´s, Kate´s and Camilla´s.

As it often happens, I find I completely agree with you, Vanessa. I also agree with those who singled out Letizia’s outfit as THE most amazing and elegant one.
DeleteLily
Oh mein Gott. alle richtig schick angezogen - nur Theresa May sieht in ihrer viel zu jugendlichen Robe mit dem tiefen Ausschnitt einfach scheußlich aus. Gibt es in Downing Street No. 10 keinen Spiegel? Das Kleid von Kate ist toll. Und die Juwelen der royalen Damen - einfach super! Aber Herr Trump hätte sich besser einen neuen Frack gekauft - der alte sitzt etwas "sperrig".
ReplyDeleteThe UK women look amazing. The Duchess of Cambridge looks very much like the future queen. Unfortunately, our US POTUS has a diet consisting of regular fast food, which shows in his clothing.
ReplyDeleteThe big winner was Rose Hanbury. She was the most well dressed !

DeleteIf there had truly been any shenanigans, this couple would be excluded from such events. How embarrassing for them all to be the subject of such fake gossip.
Deletesonnenkringel, they can not exclude them from such events because Rose Hanburys husband is Lord Chamberlain and in this position they need to invite him.
DeleteI'm not sure about the rumours maybe they are right, maybe they are fake. Time will tell.
Correction, I'm sorry, he's not Lord Chamberlain, he's Lord Great Chamberlain
DeleteDear Anna B. thank you.
DeleteThe Queen, Camilla and the First Lady three times perfection. Cathrine;s dress was nice but busy the sash makes a nice contrast.Anne's dress was nice, did not care for Pss Michael of Kent's dress Pss Alexandra of Kent looked great. The President needs a new waistcoat a little on the snag side.Every one looked their best.
ReplyDeleteQueen Kate and Camilla looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMelania - the gloves looks like old Hollywood and the hairstyle is boring.
Not my stile.
All the ladies look very nice. The queen is fantastic as always <3
ReplyDeleteKates dress is not my favourite dress, but still very nice. Her style is lovely and the Lover's knot tiara is just one of the most beautiful tiaras I know.
I'm ok with Melanias Dress, it's not a 'wow', but a nice dress. But I really hate these gloves. They don't fit the outfit well and look weird.
Ivanka looks very good, I like her dress a lot - but not for this occasion. Collar/neckline is wayyyy to casual for this occasion. On another occasion this would be absolutely fantastic. The dress itself is really very, very nice.
Tiffany.. well.. it's not that bad, but remindes me a bit of disney princess.
Sophie Wessex - fantastic! she looks just fabulous!
Pics of the other ladies I saw - very nice :-)
Me asombró la cantidad de blancos,la reina y Camilla predecibles,No me gusta el vestido de kathy(en general se viste muy bien)princesa Alejandra elegante,la tela del vestido de la princesa Ana hermoso pero.no lo luce
ReplyDeleteWho,isnTiffany??????
