King Willem Alexander, Queen Maxima and their daughters, Princesses Catharina-Amalia, Alexia and Ariane in flamengo dresses, celebrating their 20th anniversary at the April fair in Sevilla. The Dutch royal family arrived in Seville on May 09. The Seville Fair (officially, Seville April Fair) is held in Andalusian capital of Seville. The fair generally begins two weeks after the Semana Santa, or Easter Holy Week. In May 1999, King Willem-Alexander had attended a party at the Seville Fair where he met Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti (thereafter Queen Maxima). |
gipsies! ja ja
ReplyDeleteAnonymous at 12.06AM: What do you mean?
DeleteIt's always a great event in Sevilla, I bet they had fun. (although the girls look a bit shy in their traditional dresses...)
oh yeah they could not dream of a better environment for them. They are probably training their knoledge of Spanish.
DeleteAnonymous at 12:06, you don't know your gypsies! This is an event for Catholic ladies, and others, to celebrate love and spring in Andalusian national costumes; as we do in Europe, from Scandinavia down to Spain: Folk costume is part of our rich long cultural heritage. We have history and we do not ignore it.
DeleteNot gipsies...it is a aristocrat event...very expensive, in fact.
DeleteMeine Güte, wie die Zeit vergeht. 20 Jahre!
ReplyDeleteQueen Maxima is so natural and fresh...no trouble to join the party in the fair and share the costums. All the girls wear wonderful flamenca dresses. I wish Queen Letizia appeared in Seville with her daughters...
ReplyDeleteYes, I was also thinking how nice it would be to see Letizia and her daughters at this fair.
DeleteLetizia is from Asturias...totally different, they are Celtic descendants and play the bagpipes...
DeleteLetizia is from the North, Asturias....the costumes are totally different..
DeleteIt would be ridiculous...
I am from Asturias, like Queen Letizia. My husband is andalusian and I really enjoy wearing a flamenco dress. Never felt ridiculous!

DeleteI thought the "ridiculous" comment by Anon 9:24 was totally rude. Thank you for your comment, Maria, and good for you. I am sure I would not think you looked great!
DeleteBut Felipe is not Andalusian, so it is totally different. I would never wear it and I am from Valencia. Do you wear a Basque costume??
DeleteMaría, and do you usually wear Catalan, Basque, Galician, extremaño, etc...tipycal dresses??
DeleteSo Letizia should do it,if not it would be a problem so better none, more clever...she can't represent only one region..
Anon 5:40....if you do not have family from the region, it is ridiculous, as someone has said, why not the Teruel costume?? I bet María does not wear Catalan tipycal dresses even in Barcelona
DeleteFelipe is from Madrid, so she might wear the "castizo madrileño" costume....oh my!! The criticism would be awful...
DeleteIf Letizia and her daughters were to visit the Feria I think it would be perfectly "appropriate " for them to wear these kinds of dresses no matter where they come from originally. They would just be fitting in with the event - like Maxima and her daughters are, they aren't Andalusian either.
DeleteFranny, people in Spain would criticise it, not appropiate at all, better to avoid it...
DeleteShe would need to visit all the ferias...as la verbena de la Paloma in Madrid!!
A political issue in the end...

Those dresses are very, very expensive, they would be criticized...They would need a "fallera" of Valencia also next year etc...
DeleteThat's a shame. It would be nice to see them taking part in all these things.
Delete20 jaar Máxima Zorreguieta!
ReplyDeleteWat een nare opmerking. Bekijk het eens van de andere kant. 20jaar een gelukkige man.
DeleteWho says the comment of Hr. Peters was negative? It could also be a compliment!
DeleteI love this family, and the fairy tale story of how the parents meet at the same fair.
ReplyDeleteTheir dresses are absolutely gorgeous, well blended colors 💕
Totally agree with you Winnie.
DeleteMe too Winnie! Well said!
DeleteHow nice a 20th anniversary of their meeting, the rest is History. Four gorgeous Ladies. Love these flamengo dresses, what great colors.
ReplyDeleteCompliments to everyone. They look smashing!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to take their daughters back to the place they met! And such beautiful daughters--each with very distinct looks. Each dress is wonderful--great festive colors.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!! Enjoy your family time
ReplyDeleteGorgeous family! So natural and happy!
ReplyDeleteHow cute do these three look
ReplyDeleteIndeed.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful bright colors they all look very pretty!
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity how old are Cathrina-Amalia and Alexia?
They look very mature for their age.
I think they're only like 14 and 16, correct me if I'm wrong.
What a meaningful trip for them! The ladies look gorgeous in the traditional dresses.
ReplyDeletePD Please, don't bring your ignorance to this fab fashion blog.

Maxima is not one bit shy. Everyone looks lovely! Thanks for sharing these photos!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. The bright coloured and happy patterned dresses reflect their shining personalities. I love it! The colours are great, as well as the hair updo's with the flowers. And especially the idea of bringing their daughters to the place where their love story began.
ReplyDeleteSimply wonderful and I adore it!
They look beautiful! I hope one day to visit, it's been a dream of mine. What a fantastic trip for the family, such a meaningful one.
ReplyDeleteThe ladies look marvelous! I truly feel concern for Alexia who hasn't looked very healthy the last couple of weeks. To me, some sparkle is gone from her eyes. I guess as a retired teacher these thoughts keep happening. I hope I am wrong.
ReplyDeleteAgree absolut Alexia and the lost sparkle.
ReplyDeleteHope all the best for her - healing and
recovery.
Queen Máxima never ceases to amaze me, she looks as comfortable and sassy as any Spanish woman, I truly admire how she seems to enjoy life. They all look fantastic, and the dresses are a work of art.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was there, singing, dancing, eating the delicious food and sampling some Andalusian wine.
What a lovely trip for them. Maxima and the girls look fabulous - loving all the colours.

ReplyDeleteRealmente maleducado y grosero. What a shame
OMG! This is appalling. This man always looks so jovial on pictures.
