The Countess of Wessex is currently in India to see how programmes supported by The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust are tackling avoidable blindness in babies born prematurely in India. The visit of The Countess will last for 5 days. On the first day of her visit to India, The Countess visited Gandhi Medical College and Hospital to learn more about retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) which is a potentially avoidable eye condition that affects premature babies. |
Afterwards, The Countess of Wessex met with Dr Jalili who is the founder of lvprasadeye in Hyderabad, which is a Centre of Excellence in the Prevention of Blindness. Dr Jalili saved the sight of more than 20,000 babies. |
In the evening, The Countess was welcomed at UK in Hyderabad (British Deputy High Commission in Hyderabad) to congratulate graduating midwives and there, The Countess also met with 2016 Queens Young Leaders Award winner Neha Swain. |
