I like it that she looks very well put together in cheap clothes, whereas our queen Maxima ( I am Dutch) most of the times looks a mss in very expensive ones.....

    1. Completely agree. May be Q.M. would look better with Zara's or Massimo Dutti.

    2. But your Queen Maxima has a natural classy demeanor that only Mary comes close to. The Queen can’t help the fact that she has terribly thin and brittle hair. It would cost a fortune to have s round the clock hair stylist.

    3. You are right, Anon 8:58. Maxima can do so much better than she shows lately. Perhaps she doesn't care what others think and is she simply doing her job without putting too much attention to her appearance.
I don't know for sure of course ;-) But, being a Dutchie too, I'm also wondering what she is thinking because she can also look amazing and hit it out of the park.
Luckily her beautiful personality shines always through! So let's look at that when we see her :-)

    4. "Queen Maxima has a natural classy demeanor that only Mary comes close to".

    5. Southernbelle, I can't disagree more with the statement of having a hairdresser at your disposal when you are a very rich queen, just one of the many dresses, along with the brand shoes and clutch costs more than to pay a salary for a hair stylist to come to the palace before she goes out to her engagements. Do you think that she doesn't have a person in charge of buying her clothing and dealing with vendors, or an assistant to laid, hang, iron and take care of her clothes and daily needs? Maxima's hair puzzles me, because with a little care and a good cut even the most fragile kind could be made to look presentable, or a very simple updo, ponytail etc., which is what most women do on bad hair day, it also looks incongruent for somebody that dresses to the hilt. I do like her a lot, and find her personality an sense of style unique, and refreshing, but I can't qualify her as "classy", IMO she overdresses, and is excessive on her choice of accessories and jewelry regardless of the occasion. Just as an FYI, my opinion is just a fashion critique and not a character judgment.

I am Anonymous 8:58..... I do not know anything about her “beautiful personality”..... Maybe you mean by that that QM screams with laughter most of the times, which may come across with some suscipious souls as myself as ‘phoney’ .... she plays a role. At serious occasions she has big big big sad eyes....... sometimes she even manages a tear....

    7. I agree with Cherry. I, too, think Maxima could easily afford a hair stylist. Clearly what she is doing now isn't working. She spends a lot of money on 'unique' clothing that does not stand the test of time, instead of investing in classic silouettes. She also spends a lot of money on her over the top jewelry when classic pieces would be more elegant and could be worn a lifetime. She is making choices that most royalty would not make. I think if she can spend so much on her distinctive wardrobe and fashion jewelry, she shouldn't give a second thought to a hair stylist.
A professional taking over her hair would make a world of difference.

    8. Anon 6:06, I'm sorry but I do not agree. Actually, I found it a bit insulting what you said, sorry.
Maxima is well-known for her personality, showing her emotions and being genuine. When she laughs, she really has fun. When she cries, she really feels sad. She has the role of queen, but is not 'playing' it like you said. She is a human being and she shows that.

is it cold enough to wear boots indoors in Spain? looks rather unusual to me. Had I seen this somewhere in Sweden or Norway I wouldn't be surprise. Otherwise, not a bad combination, just unsure if appropriate for April in a Mediterranean climate. Weather Network agrees with me...:)

Madrid has not a Mediterranean climate at all..It is in the centre and it is a plateau, so it is very cold....
Also in Spain there are 5 climates and subclimate, obviously in the Atlantic Coast (North, Northwest and Soutwest) are not Mediterranean at all or the interior....
We have 35 ski resorts in Spain, also it is the second more montaneous country after Switzerland in Europe....

    7. Anonymous @ 6:31 I am not going to school you about the weather in Spain, as others have already explained to you, I just wanted to note that nowdays and unless your are wearing the snow type, most boots are made for fashion rather than protection from the elements, so as long as there is still a little nip in the air, they are totally acceptable

  10. I love these boots. They fit her legs so well, which can be difficult when your legs are thin. She looks good in black, and it is nice that she has lightened it up with the skirt. I consider the snake skin a neutral, and it is not too much for me.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think we should stop comparing women, Maxima has her own style very vibrant as her personality, Letizia has a modern classic look. But both look good

    ReplyDelete
  12. Madrid is not anywhere near the coast, but Spain as a whole is very much a mediterranean country, so for anyone north of the Alps, Madrid is relatively moderate in terms of climate.

But anyway, I don´t mind the boots in april, but I do mind the combination of this summery, floaty white skirt with the black heavy boots. Obviously, these are fashion boots and not winter boots, but they still look too heavy for the skirt, or the skirt too light for the boots. This is a Mette-Marit kind of look, and while I don´t mind colour inversion (white skirt with dark top and shoes), it still needs to be a coherent look. And I think this isn´t.
Also, I think Letizia in general isn´t served well by long, limp skirts. She needs either shorter skirts (knee-length) and/or more volume. Just a sturdier fabric for the skirt would have made a difference, I think.

Her hair and make-up are fantastic.

    13. Relax everyone. I don´t insist on anything here, I´m trying to give you a different perspective. Google "mediterranean countries" and see what comes up... - exactly! Spain IS a mediterranean country, because it fits the definition of "countries surrounding the Mediterranean sea". Therefore I explicitly spoke about Spain as a whole (and not the whole of Spain). That is not to say that there aren´t any regional differences within Spain. And if you all calm down and read what I wrote, you´ll see that I recognized the fact that Madrid is not anywhere near the coast.

I understand everyone´s regional pride, but please you understand other people´s perspective - the further away someone is, the more general his or her pespective.

To a Spaniard for example, Sweden is that Scandinavian country far up north generally associated with cold weather and dark winters. But there are huge differences in climate between the south and the far north (prompting the people in the south to call their region ´the Swedish riviera´ where spring arrives easily two months earlier than at the polar circle...), but Sweden as a whole is still a cold country. And even if you said that the whole country is cold, I still wouldn´t blow up in your face because - relative to your own climate - the Swedish climate is indeed cold.
      Better now?

Spain is not sorrounded by the Mediterranean sea!! Only one part!! The other is sorrounded by the Atlantic Ocean!! Look at one map!!! The North, The NorthWest and the SouthWest!! Many people have never seen the Mediterranean in their lives. as whole does not exist. And Mediterranean is only a tiny part. Never say that in Spain because it is an insult to people who have nothing to do with it. The North Atlantic part have a Oceanic climate and is very similar to Ireland or Switzerland, it rains a lot more than in England. In the Basque Country Basque language is spoken and im Galicia Galego, not Spanish, they are Celtic descendants and even play the bagpipes as the Scotts.
In the North Center the climate is Continental with the winters very cold and snow.
Madrid is a plateau so cold and in winter hot. Castilian language is spoken.
South west have a climate similar to Portugal.
The Mediterranean part is warm an humid and Catalá and Valenciá are spoken.

So it is a country which have a tiny Mediterranean part only...

In Sweden everybody speaks Swedish, in Spain even 4 languages are oficial.
Galego, Basque, Català and Castellano....Sweden is more homogeneous, I have visited Stockholm and Malmö. The last is less cold and people more similar to Danish....I know....But Spain is totally different one part to another and even it has political implications.....

      Delete
    17. "Countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea" means that said countries border the Mediterranean, not that they are surrounded by it.

Sweden also has several offically recognized languages.

Any country looks more homogenous from the outside but offers a great deal of variety if looked at from the inside. It´s a matter of perspective.

You Spanish people are hot-tempered. (another stereotype, HA!). Good on you. I don´t think you´re right here, but I like your passion.

Anyway I liked Sweden a lot. Stockholm reminded me Paris...last March, the lakes were almost melted but in the zoo there was ice yet. Many restaurants and a very sophisticated country nowadays..

And in Malmö the spring was warm 20C that day...there are terraces and it was very lively.

I spoke in English with the people, I learnt some words in Swedish also, I had watched the Bron/Broen series....I was in Copenhague too....by the bron/broen.....and I learnt that it was Denmark back in the day...Vikings....

      People is not cold (stereotype..,ha)

Pigeonholing clothing to a specific season is no longer done. Although this skirt is limp, it can be styled with leggings underneath so the wearer is not cold. These boots are not the type of 'workhorse' winter boot one keeps in the closet. They are mainly for the look, and brief outings such as this. Boots like these and booties are also sold with the toes cut out. Clearly not winter wear. Most of the people in the pictures are still in winter mode.
She probably mixes these pieces in to satisfy the 'Spanish fashion' critics and keeps it affordable to any pocket. This also helps at the end of the year when the 'rags' calculate how much she spent on clothes. It comes nowhere near her contemporaries.

@8:30 Some people wear their Ugg boots with shorts in the summer, or ripped jeans with tights underneath in the winter. Not everyone is swept up by the tide of fashion, but the runway shows and fashion magazines are a good place to start. ...The way the boots fold at the ankle, they likely have a thin lining. Even A.Bocelli can see that they are not warm.
