King Philippe and Queen Mathilde's State visit to Portugal

King Philippe of Belgium and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are making a state visit to Portugal on October 22-24 as the guests of Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. On October 22, the King and Queen of Belgium arrived at Lisbon Military Airport. The Royal Couple were welcomed by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa with a state ceremony held at National Palace of Belém. The visit program includes various activities in Lisbon and Porto. (this evening, President of Portugal will hold a state banquet at Ajuda Palace in honour of Belgian king and queen)

    Mathilde va vestida como si fuera de invitada a la boda de un torero o de un futbolista. Los portugueses son, en general, gente muy discreta y de una elegancia nada ostentosa; ver a La reina bajar dl avión así vestida les habrá sorprendido.

    She is true to her style and I very much respect that. This is also a lovely colour combination and I love it that she respects the tradition of wearing hats for such state occasions. Maybe some will see it as old fashioned, but I don't. I think it is lovely, she is a queen, not the wife of a president.
