The Belgian royal palace shared pictures on Tuesday morning of the Crown Princess ready for her departure and being waved off by siblings, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eléonore. Belgian Crown Princess Elisabeth left her country for the Atlantic College in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales. The 16-year-old Crown Princess will complete her secondary school education in the principality. |
Crown Princess Elisabeth completed the entrance test in Brussels and will start school in Wales together with eleven other Belgians. She is following the International Baccalaureate to prepare for university studies. A special introductory week begins at the Welsh college outside Cardiff this week. School proper will start next week. Lessons are combined with social and cultural activities including communal work that aims to give young persons a sense of responsibility. |
The school is a part of the United World Colleges (UWC) and is known for its ability to bring together people from different cultures from across the world. King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands also studied at that school. Pupils of the school are from 90 different nations. School fee is 25,000 euros a year. 30% of pupils enjoy a grant. |
The college discussed security with the palace. The aim will be to treat the Crown Princess as a normal young person but security officers will be present in the background. The Duchess of Brabant follows her father, King Filip, in seeking an education in the United Kingdom. King Filip started his university studies at Oxford in England before travelling to Stanford in the US for an MA in political sciences. |
