Duchess Catherine of Cambridge and Countess Sophie of Wessex hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace on Monday evening to celebrate The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, a new initiative which brings together the biggest talents in artisanal and luxury design from across its 52 countries. (Duchess in Erdem and Sophie in Burberry). Princess Beatrice also joined the reception wearing an Erdem dress. |
Princess Beatrice was also there
ReplyDeleteBoth ladies look very nice although Sophie's shoes don't really go with her dress. I think this is the best Erdem dress Kate has worn in awhile, compared to those she wore on her last trip. I'm also glad she is wearing more prints again instead of solid color dresses.
ReplyDeleteI agree assessment. However, I don't know if it would help Sophie to wear dark colored shoes to go with the dress. Maybe she is wearing more nude toned shoes to elongate her legs considering the length of the dress.
DeleteI think the Duchess should give the Erdem brand a rest. The clothes are very dowdy and look downmarket.
ReplyDeleteYou are right: dowdy and cheap looking is a very apt description of this Erdem dress. On the positive side, I would never have believed it was possible to look good in a heavy, mustard-yellow lace dress, but the lady who speaks with the Duchess in the fifth photo looks very good ih hers.
DeleteThis was exactly my thought, when I scrolled down and came to this yellow lace dress: Wow! What an impressive look - compared to this the Erdem dress looks like.....nothing! It doesn't speak anything at all.
DeleteI really like Sophie, but not her dress here.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Countess does represents the Monarchy better that Kate. She has more gravitas, more experience.
ReplyDeleteBoth ladies look lovely. i like Duchess Kate's style lately. thumbs up to her stylist 👍❤
ReplyDeleteTime to permanently retire Erdem (although this one isn't nearly as bad as the others she wore in Sweden). Kate has cultivated an impeccable sense of style over the last years and she doesn't need Erdem to damage this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dress. Stylish and elegant to both Royal ladies.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteHonestly, I'm not a fan of Erdem's latest collections……… but Kate looks so pretty during her pregnancy and absolutely stunning in a Jenny Packham dress at the BAFTA awards two days ago.
ReplyDeleteRed nail polish for the Countness? I red somewhere, that the British Royal Family is only allowed to wear one specific light pink nail polish. But I think the Countness of Wessex knows very well what she is "allowed" to wear. Does someone knows more about nail polish and the BRF?
ReplyDeleteOf course there are no rules about nail polish for the Royal ladies. There is so much ridiculous misinformation about - the price we pay for everyone having their say on the internet. Some people believe everything they read!
DeleteI think both ladies looked lovely.
Exactly. Sadly many facts that people think are true are just gossip made up by the tabloids or even regular media.
DeleteSophie looks good, and I don´t mind the shoes. Somehow, the nude shoes saves the look for me, because normally with that dress length, legs tend to look stumpy and short when the visible leg part (between dress hem and shoe) is short. The nude shoe optically creates a longer leg.
ReplyDeleteKate´s dress is not a good choice. Firstly, this floaty flowery number seems odd for a midwinter occasion. Secondly, the busy all-over pattern becomes overwhelming at that length, and thirdly, this dress really needed to be short (as seen on the model) in order to look fresh. At the longer length, it instantly becomes dowdy.
Sophie looks wonderful here, Kate's dress is not good at all. I think she should wear more solid colors, much more classy that prints that are distracting to look at. I like Sophie's dress much better. And what happened to Beatrice? No pictures and hardly a mention of her. :(
ReplyDeleteI think they both look good - I particularly like the dress Catherine is wearing. I'm glad she isn't playing it quite so safe with her fashion choices any more.
ReplyDeleteI think the mustard lace dress is horrible.
I like the Erdem dress this time and Countess Sophie looks stylish too - but the wow effect is the young black woman with the yellow dress and the pink earring: marvelous.
ReplyDeleteBoth of Catherine and Sophie look fantastic. I think that it must be great honor for fashion designers to be invited and awarded at The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange.
ReplyDeletegosh catherine wears dresses that look the same whether pregnant or not, why cant she have some edge, and do chic, fierce!!
