In the evening of October 10, 2017, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands attended the official state banquet hosted by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal at the Palace of Ajuda in Lisboa CDP, Portugal. Queen Máxima and King Willem Alexander are paying a state visit to Portuguese Republic upon invitation of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

    I'm torn about this dress. I like the color and those emeralds! Wowza! But the dress somehow looked too heavy for me.

    This is absolutely gorgeous - the dress, jewels, makeup, hair - the whole ensemble. Maxima is at the same level today as she was at the coronation: perfection. Does anyone know the decoration that goes around the top of the dress?

      Grand collar and sash of Prince Henry the Navigator (Infante Dom Henrique de Avis). King Willem-Alexander is wearing it, too.

      Thank you, DSC. I'm glad this is a widely knowledgeable group.
      Oops! I didn't even notice it on the King - he looks good, too.
      I believe the collar and sash fell off her shoulder, unintentional, and she didn't want to fiddle with it knowing photos were being taken. When she is seated at dinner, the sash and collar are back in place.

    I can't remember another Royal wearing a sash over the arm. I suppose it's the way to not spoil the cleverage of the dress, but It is strange.

    Das Kleid ist schön, aber der Smaragd ist der Star, nur noch überstrahlt von Maximas Persönlichkeit. Die Schärpe so zu befestigen ist sehr kreativ, so wird der Ausschnitt nicht beeinträchtigt.

    Her hair is nice, as befits the occasion. There has to be a happy medium somewhere between formal hairdos and her usual sloppy mess, she hasn't found it yet.

    Queen Maxima looks so lovely and I really like her gown, hair, jewellery.
    I only wish she could have worn her sash and collar a little better (now it looked like they had slipped off her shoulder).
