Beatrice Borromeo attended the seventh official First Ladies Luncheon hosted by the UN Fashion 4 Development at The Pierre Hotel in New York. Fashion 4 Development (F4D), is a global awareness campaign that unites diplomacy, media, business, and the creative industries in full support of the UN Millennium Development Goals. |
Too bad she couldn’t stand up straight.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the way she is standing at the podium. She looks relaxed, although I am sure she is nervous. Loved to have heard her speech.
ReplyDeleteI hate the way she is standing. It gives all the vibes you wouldn´t want to be associated with in that setting (high profile international summit allegedly taking serious care of the worries of the world...): She looks bored, nonchalant, immature, non-serious, and striking a typical sleazy celebrity pose.
DeleteNormally I like her style but I find this really grim - she looks like some kind of mafia widow.
ReplyDeleteHorrible pose!
ReplyDeleteIs she a 'First Lady'? Of which country? Did I miss something? What has she to do with fashion besides wearing it? Is she a fashion designer? What qualifies her to speak on a complicated topic like global development and millenium goals? Maybe I just don't know it and she is seriously into these themes. Her attitude and posture though makes me believe that she has not a clue what she is talking about.
ReplyDeleteI´m totally with you Beth. I also cringe at these type of events, especially when I see the kind of attention-grabbing attitude at display that totally lack the seriousness required to at least pretend they knew what they were doing. I don´t expect any significant outcome of that event whatsoever. After all, any first lady is by definition no more than "the spouse of", meaning none of them is there because of any qualification, or official capacity as a representative of a anyone or anything. And if that´s the entry requirement for a global summit these days, and apparently some of the people holding speeches don´t even meet that requiremnt (and the title of the whole thing includes the word fashion), than my expectation are literally zero.
DeleteAbsolutely agree with Beth and Vanessa. These recent UN events all seem to be a venue for "attention grabbers". I don't have much liking for the UN because of its bias and many failures but these events drag it down even more. What the heck is "fashion 4 development"? Sweat shops in third world countries?
DeleteMe too!
DeleteBeth, she is supposed to be a journalist, few years ago in Italy she worked as a tv journalist on a TV program where she kind of interwieu young people; very much has been said that she one of the so called "Communist with Rolex". I guess she thinks she's Oriana Fallaci....
DeleteHeather and Coralie. Totally agree about your comments regarding the UN. It seems to be serving itself rather than for the purpose it was set up for under the League of Nations. Still, I don't mind her stature. She is a serious and fearless journalist. You should see some of her interviews.
ReplyDeleteChristine, you are right. I forgot that she is a journalist. I have not read anything from her, but probably I underestimate her.
DeleteF4D!!! business, media, blah blah. She looks bored, her outfit is blah and her posture is terrible.
