King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia arrived at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo for the state banquet hosted by Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on April 5, 2017. The Spanish royal couple is on a four-day state visit to Japan.

I love this dress and the jewels, of course. Like Queen Mathilde before, Queen Letizia opted for a small tiara because Empress Michiko doesn't wear tiaras anymore for health reasons.
I notice something strange on the dress. In the first 3 pics you can see that Letizia's breasts are kind of pushed up (which i think it very tacky) but on last few pics lher breasts look more "tucked in" the dress.
Queen Letizia looks absolutely lovely and appropiately dressed for the event. Once more she shows her class by reducing the jewellery to the indispensable minimum. Obviously one can always be looking for defects. That is called in Spain "buscarle tres pies al gato", that means "to split hairs".
Exactly what I thought when I scrolled down and came to the picture of Masako. She is beautiful and looks well again lately. These two ladies are about the same generation and have much in common, both have university degrees and have worked on a high international level, both have daughters, Masako one daughter, Letizia two, but see how different a woman's life can be, due to circumstances, family rules and culture. I bet they have interesting things to talk about.
She is wearing the “Mellerio Floral" tiara, a piece by the French jeweler Mellerio. This tiara is actually convertible: it can be a necklace and the center flower can be a brooch.
Letizia looks gorgeous - a little girl's fantasy of a fairy princess in that lovely gown. A such a pretty tiara. I love the floaty gold cape on the dress of the empress. I think Masako looks a bit over-the-top. I guess it's the super-abundance of jewellery - a tiara on her head and another around her neck! It's such a traditional European Royal style that somehow seems a bit unexpected when the wearer is Japanese.

Pretty stunning ! Love the fullness of the gown. With Letizia being so petite, thought it might have looked like she'd been swallowed up, but that's not the case.
I'm never negative, but I feel Queen Letizia missed the mark with the color of this gown. It does not compliment with the Order of the Crown sash. I as expecting something like Queen Maxima's dress in 2014 https://www.pinterest.com/pin/312437292876463999/ OR Queen Mathilde in 2016 https://www.pinterest.com/pin/294352525631567042/. Any suggestions for another color?
Letitia is too skinny and bony to wear that much of a decollete. Otherwise she's OK. She's not so petite, she only looks so because Felipe is so tall. And I agree that Masako is over the top with the diamonds.

I think Queen Letizia has the same dress in red. If I'm not mistaken she wore the red one in Spain with the same tiara for a state visit when she was still a princess.
Two representatives form longest dinasties in the world, Emperor Akihito and King Philipe of Borbon (Bourbon). Tenno or Mikado began with Jinmu Tenno on 7 century and Akihito is his descendant in agnatic line, Phillipe of Bourbon is descendant of Eudes Count of Paris who rules like King by a time when Carolingians were ending their history. ..... In same way empresse of Japon is from an ancient noble lineagerelated with imperial house and Queen Letizia even is a commoner, really is not at all a commoner, she is descendant from some ancient spanish lineages. Interesting diplomatic and policy meeting.
The Queen of Spain looks stunning and beautiful dress. Beautiful dress suited for a beautiful Queen. The King and Queen compliment each other. Stunning couple
Japanese tiaras by protocol and tradition have to be white, pearls and díamonds are the acceptable gems, and in accordance with their idiosincrasy they tend to be not too elaborate. Queen Letizia wore this dress on a dinner for the Peruvian president in 2015, and although this style will not be the thing to wear by and actress in the red carpet because is not "trendy" it is definitely regal, and the color and detail is exquisite. In my opinion she looked magnificent, and with the right amount of jewels as not to obscure the tiara.
Letizia's gown is stunning! Such a beautiful colour and design. The accompanying jewellery is beautiful too. The only negative is that Letizia is a little too muscular and this gown emphasises Letizia physique too much in my opinion.

DeleteYou are right! It looks as if she wore a pushup bra for the arrival and the defilee, but took it out before sitting down at the table. Strange.
DeleteI think it´s the lighting. The full-on flash (in the last pictures) will make such contours disappear.
