Exhibition in the Royal Palace that gives an overview of 50 years Netherlands with a combination of objects of King Willem-Alexander and Dutch highlights of the last 50 years in Amsterdam. The exhibition will be opened by King Willem-Alexander who celebrates his 50th birthday together with 150 Dutch people during an official dinner in the Palace. The exhibition shows pieces like the wedding dress of Queen Maxima, the cradle of King Willem-Alexander but also the Crown, The King's thesis, the shirt of Johan Cruyff, TV figure Meneer de Uil and cloned bull Herman. |
That dress reminds me of a faberge egg.
ReplyDelete'Hahaha' @Karen, the moment I read Fabergé in your comment I knew that was what went through my mind when I saw this dress but I couldn't find the word for it. Spot on 👍
DeleteP.S. Still don't know if I like it or not. I will have to meditate over that.
Bingo! But the dress suits her.
DeleteI don't like her on the 4th picture. She looks exactly like the Metro Goldwyn Mayer lion and completely fake.
Karen indeed https://fi.pinterest.com/pin/561190803556209883/
DeleteI like this! It's both exotic and subdued at the same time, if that's possible. Gorgeous colours.
ReplyDeleteShe looks radiant.
I would have thought celebrating with ordinary people she would have toned it down a bit - dress wise ??
ReplyDeleteDo you think the citizens invited to the Palace for dinner would really want to see a "dressed down" queen. I know I'd be disappointed if that was the case.
DeleteFabulous! This THIS is Maxima at her best! Gorgeous colour!
ReplyDeleteWow beautiful, happy, rekaxed couple Dutch are lucky!!
ReplyDeleteIn the second picture looks like King Willem-Alexander is scratching his head while looking at her dress and he is saying to himself; "What in the world was she thinking".
ReplyDeleteI think he's scratching his head and thinking, "I am fifty with a smokin' hot wife." Pretty sure you got it wrong, @Unknown
DeleteLOL, M Hall! Perfect!
DeleteYes M Hall and Pine 👍👌
DeleteM Hall you are absolutely right.
Delete"Unknown", that's funny and true! Well, the colours are good on Maxima, but somehow it reminds me of antique embroidered curtains with cords or yes-, a'n expensive Faberge egg. And believe it or not: I do have a plaid exactly like hers around her shoulders. Got it for £8,-. Very soft uand cosy for the doggy in his basket. Well, big show and money spending this week-end. Long live the King!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is inspired on the wallpaper of one of the rooms in Palace Huis ten Bosch. https://twitter.com/JohandeHaan3/status/858026332311216128 Credits to modekoninginmaxima.nl
ReplyDeleteSee, curtains, wallpaper... What did I told you? But, no, seiously: She is Maxima, looking very good tonight :)
DeleteDid I tell you, not did I 'told' you.... when you use did you can not use told
DeleteHow intelligent you are, Ruben ponce! Thank you for sharing your in-depth knowledge. So I can sleep more easily.
DeleteSilvia, you are great!
DeleteRainha, yes, I do Like our Queen's style. I've been following her from the very first appearance in the Dutch media and watched her beautiful wedding. That dress is stunning.

DeleteI think it is very nice Máxima chose a very royal dress, and not an understated one. The people she is entertaining are dining with the King and Queen for once in their lives, and they deserve as much a real Queenly attire as a president or other 'high' guest.
ReplyDelete100% agree. This is a gorgeous dress with very fine details, the embroidery in gold thread is a particularly exquisite work. The colours are well matched too.
DeleteAnd Queen Máxima wears it well, she looks extremely lovely.
I don't quite get the whining on Máxima overdressing, especially at an occasion as celebratory as this. I certainly couldn't afford a dress like this (let alone the whole party) but that's nobody's fault, not Máxima's nor anyone else's and my chances to be able to afford it wouldn't approve would Máxima wear a toned down outfit at a cheaper party, so... I hope my point is explained to whom it may concern (and I'm staring at you, Dutchinmigrant!).
If my country had a queen I'd prefer one like Máxima. And I'd prefer magnificent, elegant celebrations like this, yes, even at my (=a taxpayer's) money. Willem-Alexander and Máxima show us how celebrations should be done: they should be memorable, outstanding events. Otherwise it's just like any other day. That's why you dress up your best to a wedding, that's why you put on a better outfit for a big family gathering, to the opera or even the corporate christmas party.
ZL, you are right as for the joy of dressing up for special events. On my wedding I wore a dress that was especially made for me. The taylor was a very skilled one and gave me very good advice (I don't understand much about fashion) and together we choose the perfect silk in the perfect colour for me. Believe me, I looked stunning on my wedding day! The dress was expensive, but that was okay for THAT day. This is why I like looking at photos of beautifully dressed women. ( And men. My hubby was and is a stunner too.)But anyway - I prefer living in a country without monarchy. I am not even sure how long there will be monarchy in Europe.
DeleteI am celebrating with you ZL! I would pick a Maxima myself! I think it is a milestone birthday and a party for the country! Go big Maxima!!
DeleteShe looks lovely - she's got the personality to carry it off. I love her joie de vivre.
ReplyDeleteOk ....I give ~ what is the 'cloned bull' Herman?
ReplyDeleteLe cousin de la brebis Dolly !
DeleteOh LOL merci Myriam :)
DeleteWho is the director of that spectacle? Wes Anderson? Tim Burton? And whose birthday is it - Willems or Maximas?
ReplyDeleteWillems birthday Coralie...
DeleteBut still wondering what a cloned bull Herman means?
I think Maxima had a few too many. Don't care for the dress at all, but she's happy and having fun, and as usual, she needs to be the star. Whose birthday was it anyway, it be nice if she let her husband shine for a change.
ReplyDeleteHow superficial. I've you saw the tv shows you might not say these things at all. She needs to be the star? would you also say that to her if you got the chance to meet her like many people had.
DeleteI actually love the dress on her, it is unexpected and totally happy. Only Máxima can get away with it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting dress, but remember, the Dutch are very design talented, like mixes, not afraid to press the boundaries. It was a special night where 150 citizens were invited to the Papalce! Appreciate no tiara worn. Wonderful night. Gefeliciteerd!
ReplyDeleteOh Maxima your smile is matchless! Love the outfit perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this dress! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this dress! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMaxima is stunning! Her dress is heavy of ornaments but that's how she likes it and she looks spectacular in it! She sure knows how to make a show!
ReplyDeleteMaxima looks stunning and dresses right on target for her husband the KING 50th. She enjoys her life and its very clear they have a wonderful relationship.
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful day! I've also watched an impressive interview on tv with a King in tears while talking about the loss of prince Friso.
ReplyDeleteI've read some of the comments here that surprised me. Try not to judge on 5 random pictures. If you saw the the tv show for instance you would see that the whole family enjoyed themselves a lot. Maxima wasn't steeling the show, the King gave an interview of 90 minutes and a long and personal speech before the palace dinner. Plenty of attention there. He did very well and is more popular than ever.
Agree with you. They Royal couple look super and the Queen's dress suitable for the occasion. I don't see any wallpaper or curtain details in the dress. It is something different and match the personality of the Queen. Happy Birthday to the King.
DeleteRoyalty dont give too much importance to people who judge the whole life of someone just looking at 3 pictures..lately there are many on here.I think your royals are a wonderful couple and look very well together...she is a master of style!bye.
