3rd Day - Queen Maxima King Willem State visits Australia

On November 2, 2016, Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the War Memorial in Canberra, Australia. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima lay a wreath at the Hall of Memory, watch the Pool of Remembrance and pass the Poppy Wall. The Dutch King and Queen are in Australia to mark the 400th anniversary of the landing of Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog in Western Australia, and the unveiling of Hartog's plate, which is the oldest existing relic of European exploration in Australia.

  3. That's a lot of orange Queen Max! Nevertheless, she still looked lovely. I like her hair like this.

  5. Maybe just a tad too much orange?

  6. Yepp, that's an orange overdose. I would have toned it down with some either darker or lighter brown accessories but I don't say it looks bad at all. After all, if anyone can pull off this much orange it's Máxima.

  7. I don´t mind the amount of orange (much) - it´s spring after all in Oz, but I strongly dislike the lining of the dress, both in colour (pink?) and shape (way too short in the skirt part!). Also, the sleeveless-with-overlay look in the bodice is a)unflattering and b)cheap-looking for a day outfit. For an evening outfit, it *might* work better, but then in a different colour and with an either knee-length or floor length skirt part (lining and overlay in same length).

    1. I agree, it looks somehow cheap. Also I think the time for lace dresses is over especially during the day.

A big fail for me. I agree there is too much orange. She doesn't look very polished.

    1. You are so right! Extension don't help if you do nothing with your hair but let it simply hang down, uncombed.

  9. The monarchy in the Netherlands has its roots in the House of Orange Nassau. Hence the colour orange (used and abused) in the clothes, jewelry and lots of the royal trappings. Maxima wears orange often - I think as a homage to the royal family name of which the Orange Nassau are very proud. It is a typically Dutch thing..
