  1. I think everyone would agree, Queen Mathilde look very elegant.

  4. Very chic. Very Audrey Hepburn.

  5. Beautiful colours, the outfit looks like it should work, yet it doesn't in my opinion - perhaps Maxima could have pulled if off, but on Mathilde it doesn't work at all.

  6. The colour of the hat, top and shoes are lovely on HM, but for me, the skirt is a little too much !
The Emperor & Empress look well !

  9. Not sure about the maple leaf hat. I also think the skirt is too much. Too much volume but she as always is elegant. Just a so so for me. Love the Autumn colors however.

  10. All these comments and no one comments on the stunning ensemble of the Emperess. I love the sleeves of her outfit. Such class!

    1. She looks lovely. I think we stuck to Mathilde because the post is about the Belgium couple in Japan. So the focus seems to go there. But yes the Empress is always very well dressed.

  11. I think it's sublime! Yes, the skirt has a bit more volume than one might wish for but it's quite the departure from her usual style (see the classic Natan shape of her dress when they departed from Belgium). A daring and refreshing choice.
I love that she wears a hat, obviously, but I too think this one looks a bit strange. Diane, are you sure those are maple leafs? I couldn't make it out. In fact I thought it imitated some kind of endemic sea creature from Japan. I know, it sounds horribly stupid :D

    1. Picture 4 looks like the leaves that are covering my yard right now. Red maple leaves. But who knows? I cannot stop laughing at your "endemic sea creature" bahaaaa. Have you been watching Japanese horror movies again? Hahahaa πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Attack of the Red Octopus πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜„

  12. The Empress and the former Queen Beatrix both wear interesting, beautifully tailored cape-jackets. I think on older women those cape-jackets make a lovely line over not-so-pretty arms. I wish they were available around the USA.
