Monaco’s first lady was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in 1978. In 1989, she moved to South Africa with her family, where she began to swim competitively and actually ended up representing South Africa in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Born Charlene Lynette Wittstock in Bulawayo on January 25, 1978, her career spans an arc over many different eras and tastes in Monégasque history.
