1 March: Princess Marie as patron of the AIDS Foundation visited the Department of Infectious Diseases at Aarhus University Hospital. The department consists of a bed unit with room for 24 patients, an outpatient clinic and a research department.
The department has a high-tech quarantine unit for patients with highly contagious and dangerous diseases such as Ebola. Furthermore, the staff has undergone specialized training and is equipped to handle and care for contagious patients, whilst wearing Hazmats suits.
The clinical services at the department are supported by the Research Unit where many professions collaborate on conducting research which can be translated into clinical practice within the foreseeable future. The department collaborates with acknowledged research groups both nationally and internationally.
Department of Infectious Diseases diagnoses and treats patients with febrile conditions, infectious or contagious diseases and immune deficiency diseases. The department has extensive diagnostic facilities for patients with acute, chronic or recurrent fevers and state of the art treatment facilities for patients with chronic and acute infectious diseases including advanced isolation facilities for highly transmissible diseases.
