On December 6, Denmark's King and Queen received the President of Egypt following a welcoming ceremony at Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg.
King Frederik and Queen Mary will host a State Dinner in honor of the President of Egypt at Christiansborg Palace on the evening of December 6. Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte of Denmark will also attend the state dinner.
The Fold London Finchley Wool-Blend Tailored Coat
I don’t think this outfit works all that well. First off, the hat and hair combination looks a bit awkward. And secondly, the coat seems like an afterthought in terms of colour and length. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteI understand your perspective, but I don’t fully agree on the coat feeling like an afterthought. Sometimes, the contrast in color and length can actually create a striking look, especially if the goal is to make a bold statement or draw attention to specific details. As for the hat and hair, it might be a matter of personal taste, but I think there’s room for different styles to work together—even if they’re not the most conventional combination. It could just be an attempt to add some uniqueness to the overall outfit.
DeleteI agree. I think its always a bad choice when a dress or skirt is longer than the coat worn over the top.
DeleteIt would be impractical to have coats in all the colors and lengths necessary to have each coat be the perfect length for each dress. The royal women wear too much variety for that.
DeleteNo you just need one long coat. Or you could make your dresses which are too long shorter.
DeleteBeautiful and very feminine set. This dark green goes well both with Mary and with this dove grey/ very light blue colour.
ReplyDeleteQM has always the same old boring look with these occasions. It needs a oomph, q's and k's are real people not something out of a fairytale book. And believe me > 2024 they need a up-date too.
ReplyDeleteTry something new. It looks like QM has a cold and needed the shawl.

I see where you're coming from, but I do think the traditional look of QM adds a sense of continuity and heritage, which many people appreciate. The historical significance of the designs gives a timeless feel, and some might argue that it’s part of the charm. Updating the look can be great, but there's something to be said for keeping that regal, iconic aesthetic alive. It's a fine line between refreshing the style and losing that sense of tradition.
DeleteNah Anna, although I am curious as to why we should “believe you” that these things need to be updated?!, I disagree. These classic cuts and fabrics are absolutely classy and it would be a huge shame to ditch them. I think Mary looks adorable here, love the materials and the hat too.
DeleteA vintage look from head to toe is not for everyone, and when it is worn only on some occasions it becomes theatrical or almost comical. I like vintage myself but it should be mixed with more contemporary pieces or you should be able to pull it off somehow.
DeleteThe coat with a belt or a different color would be more special.
DeleteShe needs to look at Brigitte Macron, she looks a little bit kinky and has high quality pieces.

@Anna I think you are preaching to the wrong people. Anything new or too modern doesn't go over too well with the demographic of this blog. Just think about the continuing reactions to wide legged pants. There is something to be said for continuity and tradition, but I do think it can go too far at times. Eventually change has to happen. If it didn't, women would still be covering their ankles.
Delete@ Anna and Anonymous 00:12
DeleteI agree with Anna. Maybe a part of the people on this blog are very traditional, not everyone. There are royal ladies on this blog who are covering almost their ankles during daytime. Lucky there are also royal ladies who are women of this era and adapt their style to what is considered as fashion in the (almost) year 2025. The art is to choose clothes that are up-to-date and at the same time stylish and elegant. Some (royal) ladies are very successful in their choices, other are staying too long and feel safe in the good old grandma style. Their outfits look maybe beautiful in the eyes of some bloggers, but if you put them next to the ladies who are trying to wear clothes in a new style you see immediately that the last ones look so much better as modern, intelligent but also caring women in these difficult times.
Staying still and not adapt ourselves is moving backwards.
Q. Mary looks so pretty and feminine in this coat and hat. Love the pearls too! It's kind of a vintage look and I think it looks so good on her!!
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteSuch a lovely outfit!!! Must be very very cold and HRH Queen Mary looks so beautiful!!!!!!
DeleteBeautiful coat, interesting colour and a perfect fit is a never failing formula for a formal occasion such as this one. My only quibble about this outfit is the visible hem of the dress. I admit it is one of my pet peeves. :)

Love, love, love the color and style of Mary’s coat!
ReplyDeleteBelles chaussures. Je ne sais pas si la robe sera visible et si on l'a déjà vue, mais ce gris semble joli. Je n'aime pas les vêtements verts cependant ce manteau va bien à Mary. Paloma.
ReplyDeleteVery nice coat in fit and colour. I would like to see her dress as the colour blends with the kings tie.
ReplyDeleteReally love these clothes on Queen Mary. She looks elegant and regal. Like the fashion of 1940’s. So classy
ReplyDeleteLe manteau est super féminin mais je ne suis pas fan du chapeau que je vois quand même sur ses cheveux très bien coiffés ;
ReplyDeleteThe coat is too short or the dress or skirt is too long. The whole look is boring and out-dated, only the shoes are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMary’s whole look is classic. Love the cut of the coat, extremely stylish. Classic styles endure through and beyond the crazy speed of fashion changes (and all the clothes that end up in land fill because they’re now out of fashion).
DeleteTotally agree on all points. I don't know her age, but why dress like an old lady?
Delete@ Anon. 18:15
DeleteIn every country clothes are collected for recycling. You cannot put a coat that is out of fashion in one of your other garbich bags without risking a punishment. This look is not what I call classic. The classic coats of our era are looking straight not too wide and not too tight. You can wear it with a belt or without one. Not these coats with a wide skirt and a tight bodice. It is almost 2025 not 1945.
Anon 19.26, I understand your point, and it's true that fashion has evolved over time. The idea of "classic" style has definitely shifted, and what was once considered timeless may no longer be in style today. However, fashion often plays with elements from different eras, blending vintage influences with modern sensibilities. While the coat you're referring to may not fit everyone's idea of classic, it could still be appreciated for its unique design and boldness. Style is subjective, and what’s “out of fashion” for some can still be a statement for others. Fashion is always moving forward, but sometimes it's fun to revisit past styles with a contemporary twist.
DeleteThis hat is a big no for M, no one can look good in this hat!
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting colour combination, but I'm afraid it doesn't fully work for me. Love everything separately, the coat, the hat, the heels... I think an updo would've been nicer - and maybe a navy coat next time?
ReplyDelete-Nika-
Another new (unnecessary) coat that looks a size too small.
ReplyDeleteThe coat is beautiful, not so keen on the hat. She has such fabulous shoe game! these shoes are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about Mary's superb coat, hat and accessories worn for the president's arrival. The tailoring, the colors -- ravishing! -- Jane
ReplyDeleteBeatiful outfit. Poltroni
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit and I love the contrasting colors together. Queen Mary looks elegant and regal. I love this coat--what a gorgeous style and color. I saw photos on another site where she had added a beautiful shawl (looks like a really cold day in Copenhagen) on top of the coat and it appears to be the same color as her dress, shoes and hat. Mary's choices here are perfect in terms of traditional choices with a bit of modern flair through the color choices and styling.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Always classy.
