On the evening of March 21, 2022, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium held an official dinner at the Royal Castle in Laeken, in honour of Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer. At the invitation of the King and Queen of Belgium, Alexander Van der Bellen, President of the Republic of Austria and his wife Doris Schmidauer are making a state visit to Belgium.
Dries van Noten floral long sleeve silk dress
This is a so much better look than earlier today; QM looks wonderful! Her make-up and jewelry are super and this type of hairdo makes her look so much younger. In general QM always looks good when wearing Dries van Noten and this bold dress is no exception.

ReplyDeleteOh my!!! Mathilde does love prints. I think this huge print all over the dress is overwhelming her--its overwheming me. I would say have this print on only 1/2 the dress paired with a solid color for the other half. Her hair is lovely. Those earrings deserve a better chance to be seen--to me the print is overwhelming them too.
ReplyDeleteI don't like prints for evening gown but if it should be more open at the neck. Her hair looks nice .

The Queen looks lovely, with her hair up in this style, very becoming. I love the aquamarine and diamond drop earrings. The silk dress itself is nice, but the print is very strong and vivid.
ReplyDeleteBecause of the busy pattern I'd have preferred this dress if it was a straight, sheath style and less flared. However I suppose that would be difficult to do with silk and easier with a jersey type of fabric.

I think Mathilde wears this dress beautifully. Globally I like it.
ReplyDeleteI must honestly say that I do not like this dress at all - in my opinion, a bad choice. Mathilde looks very striking, flashy in the company of her husband, the Austrian president and his wife. The oversized pattern is not suitable for an evening gown. On a smaller area (such as a blouse or skirt, it might look better).
ReplyDeleteAbove all, however, it is not appropriate or polite to completely overshadow the guest (the wife of the Austrian president). Sure, Mathilde couldn't know what Madamme Doris would wear, but she could assume that with this eye-catching pattern, another lady at the front desk didn't stand a chance. (Once our university organized a gala evening for representatives of partner universities from abroad, I found out that our guests do not have as festive attire as we do, I immediately went to change into something more modest and less conspicuous.)
Mathilda's dress has a pattern that puts everyone on the sidelines. It's a pattern that symbolizes the phrase: I'm a star here, the rest of you are bushes.
First of all I would like to let you know that Queen Mathilde is not like you describe her. You don't know her very well otherwise you wouldn't say she is conducting like a star.
DeleteOn a state visit there is always a banquet or a gala dinner. Normally the guests are informed before about the dress code. When the guests are a king and a queen the ladies wear a tiara and a long evening dress. When the guests are a president and his wife the queen normally does not wear a tiara, like she did.
The long evening dress of Queen Mathilde is a rewair. It was new last year at the Music contest for piano of the "Concours Reine Elisabeth" and it is designed by Dries Van Noten. The fabrics he chooses have almost always big flowers.
How difficult for 'regular' people like politicans to match dinner dresses with the royalties, whom have all the support with money, stylists, hairdressers etc..
ReplyDeleteMinisters and other politicians who regularly assist at events together with members of the royal family are briefed well in advance and are used to what is expected.
DeleteAprès un deuxième regard, je crois voir ses boucles d'oreilles améthystes et peut-être également des petits diamants ; ce n'est pas du tout évident d'apprécier ?!
ReplyDeleteThis print is great but too large for an overall look. As a top or skirt it would work with a solid white or purple part. The hairdo, the make up and the earrings with the lavender coloured stones are perfect.
ReplyDeleteLike the dress but I think it's a bit "too much" for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteI feel this type of bold design would be more fitting on Maxima ! Mathilda is always at her best in lighter softer colours and designs!
ReplyDeleteIt’s good that she tries new things, but if a style works for you, stick with it !
Her hair and make up is on point !
