According to a statement made by the Swedish Royal Court, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden have tested positive for Covid-19. The Royal Court stated that the King and Queen, who were fully vaccinated with three doses, 'have mild symptoms and feel well.' The King and Queen are currently isolating themselves at their home. No other member of the Swedish Royal family tested positive for the coronavirus thus far.
Meanwhile, Grand Duke Henri has also tested positive for Covid-19 and is now isolating himself at home. Luxembourg’s rules on Covid isolation currently stipulate that anyone who is confirmed to have coronavirus must isolate himself at home for ten days from the start of their symptoms or, if they are asymptomatic, from the date of their positive test.
Wishing them all well, but cannot help but notice how useless the vaccine is. A vaccine that doesn´t provide individual immunity will never be able to provide herd immunity. This vaccine is something else.
ReplyDeleteI also cannot help but notice how the percentage of people who have contracted covid is much higher amongst politicians, royalty, celebrities etc. than amongst common people, although the first group lives much more secluded lives away from public transport, supermarket queues, crowded streets and busy workplaces. And surely they all wore their masks when needed, right? What a farce.
Vaccines are not useless. Even though they do not give 100% immunity, they prevent the difficult type of covid. With the mild type one is well again sooner. Of course there are lots of different vaccines around the world, but those used in the Scandinavian countries have proved to be quite effective. (And the text mentions that CG&S have mild symptons.)
DeleteMedia always tells more news about royals and celebrities than about "ordinary" people. You just have to read even other news than those about royals and celebrities. In my country politicians and celebrities seem to be in minority.
Margot
Sweden has mostly had a no-mask policy, unlike most other countries on the planet. I seem to recall one or both of them had Covid early in the pandemic before vaccines, as have other family members - Princess Sophia for instance.
DeleteThe annual traditional flu vaccine also does not guarantee that people will not get the flu, and its efficacy is estimated at approx. 3 months, which is why it's recommended to get the vaccine each year at the onset of the flu season, i.e. winter. Viruses mutate and spread so rapidly, and we are not yet advanced to the level of Star Trek's Dr. "Bones". S.M.
As a nurse, I hate to hear comments like yours Vanessa. The vaccine is INDEED working as it should. The difference in being vaccinated is staying at home with cough syrup, tissues, and rest OR lying in hospital with IV's, ventilation, and whatever lifesaving treatment one may need. My hubby and I just recovered at home from Covid after being fully vaccinated. We are both in our 70's, and are doing great now. Thank God for the vaccine!
DeleteThank you, Margot, for a delightfully sensible comment! And Vanessa: vaccines are not useless. They diminish the need for hospitalisation and intensive care and they prevent deaths. Without vaccines, the symptoms of CG and S might be much worse.
Delete-B.
The vaccine probably helped make their symptoms less - and reduced the chances for a bad outcome. It is disappointing that the vaccine doesn't stop the spread, but reducing bad outcomes is not nothing, especially for older people or those with other bad health issues.
DeleteMargot, I agree with you on all points! The King and Queen of Sweden have been wise to get both shots of the vaccine and the booster.
DeleteRenee
What nonsense you are talking about. Vaccinations are not useless. They protect against severe or fatal courses and we can be thankful that we have them! Sorry for almost being rude here, but these unqualified statements by the opponents of vaccination are starting to get on my nerves more and more. Frieda
DeleteYour comment is incredibly offensive towards all the families that have been hit by the virus by the death or illness of their dear loved ones. Have you idea of how many deaths there have been around the world???
ReplyDeleteThe vaccine DOES NOT prevent from illness, it prevents from serious illness and hospitalization, it prevents from death.
As for the royals, i think they are usully much less careful than common people, we can see it from the pics also on tbis site: no, they dont take the bus to go to work and no, they don't go to the supermarkets like us poor fellows... But what about all the concerts, the celebrations, the Christmas masses and whatever... All rigorously without a mask!!
Each of us has an opinion: but please never call "farce" something that has costed human lives and still keeps suspended our lives.
/W. W.
Well said. S.M.
DeleteYou are so right. The stupidities one can read these days on this blog are unbelievable !
DeleteThe mask policy varies from country to country.
Delete-B.
Once again (apparently this has to be said hundreds of times) the vaccine does not prevent illness 100% of the time, though it does at times. The important thing is that it prevents hospitalisation at around 90% and death almost all the time.
ReplyDeleteWould the the King and Queen as people in their 70s only experience mild symptoms it they weren't vaccinated 3 times? Most likely not.
They don't go to the supermarket or take the bus, but royalty actually meets A LOT of people (that's their job!) and have a big staff in their homes, which regular people do not. Of course many of them have gotten infected. But actually nowhere as many as in the Swedish Royal Family, where the King and Queen, Victoria and Daniel, Sofia and Carl Philip have all been infected. That's also no surprise though, considering that the Swedish authorities advise AGAINST masks and have taken few covid measures ever.
Anon 16:38 and anon 17:50, princess Sofia and Victoria volunteered in hospitals, in the beginning of the epidemic. And I got so much respect for both of them to assist the medical staff. I still remember the photo's where Victoria helped to dish out meals to the patients!
ReplyDelete@Vanessa, you spreading misinformation once again, obviously your comment reflects your opinion which is unscientific, and completely unaware of how different types of vaccines work. I am a trained health provider, and transferred from my specialty to help with COVID ICU patients in 2020, back then before the vaccine, the elderly and immune compromised were dying at an incredible pace, younger and healthier individuals were hospitalized for weeks, many made it with terrible and long side effects, some didn’t .
ReplyDeleteBack at it at this moment, the majority of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated, followed once again by elderly and immune compromised. We do have some milder cases of people that have not received the booster, and just a few that have had the 3 doses of these most have pre existing conditions.
Most of the positives on fully vaccinated have mild symptoms or none at all, we are also seeing lots of flu and pneumonia not COVID related. I have no agenda or reason to lie, and won’t regale you with the horror I have seen during this pandemic. Please get vaccinated, boosted, use N95 mask if possible, maintain your distancing and practice common sense.
Please listen to your doctor and professionals, and ignore comments from the uninformed and untrained.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year.

DeleteI am afraid you want to imply you have top information whereas the others are liers.
No, this is not the way it goes.
I am fully vaccinated and quite lucky to be well but I see some friends of mine who ,despite completing fully vaccinations , DO NOT have mild symptoms.
They are in hospital fighting for their lives.
I think you have a very partial vision of what really happens , maybe you are only looking at your country and not to the other realities worldwide.
And I can assure you that I live in a country with extremely strict anti- Covid rules and with a massive vaccination campaign still going on.
Then, you should be able to just think over what misinformation really means.
P.( the original)
@P. :writing that virus and vaccines are a farce is undoubtly writing a lie and spreading misinformation.
DeleteThe difference Is that I am not judging Vanessa, because I do understand she has a right to express her own idea about vaccines.
DeleteAlthough I am vaccinated , I do not feel safe at all and I am perfectly aware that I could catch Covid any time and only God knows what my destiny might be in that case.
Vanessa is not posing herself on the pedestal to get the first prize for the best information ever, she is not pontificating anything, as far as I can see in her post.
I think there is no reason to scold her advocating misinformation.
She is not an academic and she never claimed to be a scientist, just like me.
I feel I have probably a more realistic approach to the whole situation, as I have no certainties that my vaccines will work for sure if necessary.
I have read somewhere that it is not even that sure the booster really works against the current omicron surge.
I would define myself as "a skeptical mind".
I see this pandemic and vaccines just like a Russian roulette.
Nothing more.
P.( the original)
P.(the original) I share your point of view and I'm a skeptical mind about all this situation too. Besides I don't understand why Vanesa shouldn't say what she thinks. Yes, a lot of people died and I'm really sorry for each one of them.
DeleteMasha
DeleteThank you.
Yes, you are right.
I feel disappointment and bitterness in Vanessa's words and I can't help but share her doubts, which are my doubts as well.
What really matters is the huge and tragic rates of lost lives, irrispective of their being vaccinated or not.
Lives lost forever but , as someone said, "the show must go on".
Therefore, here we are with our different views , either right or wrong, and, as far as I am concerned, always trusting in the only certainty I have: God Almighty's mercy.
P.( the original)
Sorry, I meant: are the huge...

Mio padre purtroppo non ha fatto in tempo a fare la terza dose di vaccino, il virus l'ha ucciso in un mese.
ReplyDeleteUna preghiera per mio papΓ .
I am so very sorry, Rossella. I pray you can find peace knowing your father is with you in spirit and in your heart. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope it can make a difference in the lives of people that are not educated on the importance of the vaccination. I am sure your father will be in the thoughts and prayers of many here. Blessings, ~d
DeleteI'm so sorry for your loss Angela.
DeleteFurthermore, if more people were vaccinated, the virus would have a harder time mutating and creating more variants.
ReplyDeleteStrange that people who are anti vaccination grab every opportunity to let us know their opinion and views on the matter.
ReplyDeleteVanessa, who are you trying convince??
( on a fashion blog!!!)
Josh
Great comment, Josh!
Delete@Josh: Vanessa has her right to say her very own opinion. She is'nt trying to convince... There is no one on this site commenting on fashion, b.t.w..
DeleteI wish the King and Queen a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteHoping the Royals are soon better. Well my vaccinated friends have died, had heart attacks ,strokes; all following the injection.
ReplyDeleteYour statement is very suspicious with no proof to back it up. I can't believe the author of this site even printed such a statement. The injection is nothing more than a vaccine, and will not kill anyone. Sorry your friends have all died.
DeleteTous mes vΕux afin qu'ils se rΓ©tablissent le plus rapidement !
ReplyDeleteOn a fashion note (I think this is a fashion blog ??) Queen Silvia's earring seems to go well with what we can see of her robe. Her hair style, as usual is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI wish them both and their family good health for 2022.
"what we can see of her robe" : nothing.
DeleteJust to clarify:
ReplyDeleteI am obviously very skeptical of corona measures, and I have always been vocal about it. I´m calling it a farce because I think the measures are a farce. Please don´t turn that around and make it sound like I was mocking people who have struggled with infection or the loss of a family member. Also, I haven´t written a single word about the virus, nor have I given any advice of any sort to anyone.
To cherry: neither doctors nor nurses are scientists. You may have more experience in the medical field than me, but that doesn´t mean you own the science. This situation is complex and needs to be analysed from a lot of angles. Your angle, as true as it may be, is only one of many.
To Martha: "Furthermore, if more people were vaccinated, the virus would have a harder time mutating and creating more variants." I actually think the opposite is true.
To Josh: I´m not trying to convince anyone. And yes, it´s a fashion blog, but this entry features covid-related information, and exclusively so. I responded to those, my response was very much on-topic. If you are after a fashion discussion, I wonder why you even clicked because there is literally nothing here to discuss.
@Vanessa, you are correct only about the fact that my opinion is based on having treated hundreds of patients, I can’t speak about scientific trials because the amount of data is overwhelming and it will be a while before we have all the numbers. I gave facts, true and unbiased information. Your opinion about the virus mutating less if we were unvaccinated goes against every scientific study.
DeleteMeasures aren’t a farce, people following the measures incorrectly is a farce.
Now for the bad news, new variants will keep appearing amongst the countries with lowest vaccination rates, and as it has happened with Omicron, and will be exported to every country, again this is not my opinion but the opinion of every reputable virologist.
Cherry
Vanessa,
Deleteyou were the first one to comment on this picture:
and read your first sentence please!
In my opinion an unnecessary comment!
And with it you started this whole discussion, leading to….??
And donot tell me “ everybody has the right to his opinion” as I read here sometimes, of course, otherwise a blog like this couldnot exist, but that is beside the point.
Josh
Ok Vanessa. You stated once that you are skeptical in your first comment. There was no doubt about its meaning. No need to clarify it again.
DeleteBecause otherwise we are entitled to think that you are really campaingning as no Vax people, and this is not the right place.
Vanessa, you have been asked over and over again, since the beginning of the pandemic, to stop preaching your anti-vax propaganda. This is not the platform for your theatrics. The purpose in this post was to inform the royal watchers here that K. Carl Gustaf and Q. Silvia of Sweden and G.D. Henri of Luxembourg have tested positive for COVID. While most people would have sent their best wishes for a speedy recovery, you got things started on the wrong path with the first comment. I am sure there are new people here that don't know of the long history you have of hijacking posts and turning them into vaccine debates. It is very difficult let your misinformation go unchallenged. You have made your opinions known. You can't seem to let one opportunity go by without injecting your blather. You have proven that you should not be taken seriously over these many months by the things you have said. Just above, you said doctors and nurses are not scientists. Doctors and nurses can be both scientists and practitioners. Whether you like it or not, medical doctors/scientists/researchers are making their recommendations based on the information/facts available at the time. As more information becomes available due to research, recommendations can change. That is not a reason to call protective measures a "farce". We are all learning together this in real time. You, in all your imaginary wisdom, have been publicly debunking expert advice and information on this platform. You are out of line. Constantly trying to "clarify" your position has not made one bit of difference. As you said, you have been VERY vocal about it. We all know your opinions on masking, vaccines and the rest of it. And yes, you do come across as mocking. There are many months of your opinions on this blog, none of which have compassion for others. They all mention the inconvenience to you and your inability to accept what we all need to do for the greater good. This pandemic continues because of the people that refuse to cooperate. Above, there is a comment from Rossella who lost her father to COVID. Does that have any effect on you? You have acted like a recruiter for the anti-vax movement for the past two years. These comments never go well, are polarizing, and take us off track. Can we all finally agree to disagree and move on without further comment? ~d
DeleteTo d:
DeleteI´m sorry for Rosella´s loss. I was not going to comment on it because if I did, you would have probably attacked me even more viciously than you did in your above comment.
You can go through all the comments to this blog post and count how many of them claim that vaccines prevent deaths. Rosella´s father died despite the two vaccines that he did get. The vaccines clearly did not prevent his death. No-one seems to acknowledge that. Another commenter reports about friends in hospital fighting for their lives, despite being vaccinated. And yet the claim persists that vaccines prevent hospitalisation and severe illness. Another comment reports about vaccinated friends who have died, had heart attacks ,strokes; all following the injection. And where is your sympathy for these losses? Don´t they count? Or do you, too, demand proof first? You can, like cherry, dismiss all those reports as lies since they don´t match your world view. Cherry, of course, takes the cake calling people liars while claiming to only give facts and unbiased information herself.
@Vanessa I am not here to debate you. I posed a question to you. Can we agree to disagree and move on? Posting personal opinions about vaccines and COVID leads to the predictable rebuttals, which in turn leads to what we have here. Can we agree to keep the topic to fashion, or in this case, sending our best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the ill, then move along? We all know where we stand on this issue. No one is going to change their opinion based on verbal sparring on a royal fashion blog. It would be a nice way to start the year. ~d

@Cherry, thank you for being in the front lines taking care of the sick. I can only hope that people aren't listening to the experts that hold a google MD degree, or the avid consumers of conspiracy theories , we seem to live on an era where people won't believe what they are seeing with their own eyes, and they rather believe what the charlatans are telling them. The nerve to say that you aren't a scientist so therefore your advice is purely subjective and then turning around and dispute everything that scientists and scholars are telling us... it would be laughable if the matter wasn't so dire.
ReplyDeleteRegards
Where do yo detect the advice you are talking about?
DeleteCherry, in particular, and Josh, thank you for your contributions on this thread! :) - Ellie
ReplyDelete@P ( The original) are you kidding me?? Do you think I am looking at this pandemic from my own personal perspective? I am telling you FACTS, you may choose to disbelief me, after all lots of people are choosing to disregard scientists, doctors and health care workers, and that is why we are where we are, period. Your comments about vaccines are completely gut based, please consider reading reliable scientific literature. And NO, the virus does not affect people depending of what country they are from, what is different is the outcome depending on resources, and genetic factors. The many friends that you know that are healthy, fully vaccinated and fighting for their lives are either the exception on this new wave, or you are making up facts to support your theories.
ReplyDeleteCherry
Dear Cherry,
Deletefact is that you are the first biased person on this thread thinking you own science and your facts as they were the Gospel.
No, I am not kidding you, I am saying the truth about my friends and other people lying in hospital in my country despite being fully vaccinated( death rates include also vaccinated people here).
The others may get information too and not on Google, believe me.
I have no reason to bring in theories, conspiracies and things of this kind because I am humble enough to say clearly I am not an expert.
I said it prevoiusly , but you infer what you want to infer from my comments.
I said both Vanessa and I are neither academics nor scientists, we are voicing just our views.
Period.
I also said I am fully vaccinated myself but I am also entitled like anybody else to have my doubts.
Do you want to prohibit people's doubts too?
Please, read what people really say before attacking others.
Thank you.
Lastly: beg your pardon for my huge ignorance, but just out of curiosity, may I ask you what your job exacty consists of?
Thank you again
P.( the original)
You didn' t understand what I was saying.
DeleteObviously , I have never thought the virus affect people depending on the country they are from, I said that you probably read , Know, look how Covid and omicron surge in particular are spreading in your own country.
I was assuming that you probably do not know enough data about the virus circulation in other countries.
Ok, I May be wrong, but you can correct me in a kinder way, can't you?
I was kind in my comments and do not get why you get angry like this.

P.( the original)
Sorry, could I just make a little interruption on a fashion note?
ReplyDeleteI do believe the earring we see on Queen Silvia has been worn by Princess Victoria before. Maybe they swap and change their jewelry from time to time.
It would make sense, just as they wear the different tiaras in the collection. I believe this was taken at the dressed down Nobel Prize Ceremony last month. Thanks for bringing it back to fashion. ~d
DeleteYou know I do the same thing with my daughter. But of course, it's not tiaras that we are swapping with one another.
DeleteMaybe one day if she could find a rich prince to marry :-))
Good luck finding that prince! ~d
Delete@P, once again I am not preaching my own science, I am relating what is happening in our hospitals. In response to your question about what is that I do… I am a CNM ( certified nurse midwife) I also hold a DNP, Air Force ( retired) , I was practicing in New York when we got hit wit the first wave, took a leave from it and started working in ICU with COVID patients, then traveled South (TX) with my reserve unit when their numbers were extremely high and personnel scarce. I went back to my practice in July 2021, and since November I am back working in ICU. The current situation is very different because we do have a lot less hospitalizations thanks to vaccines and because we have made so much progress in therapeutics. I didn’t realize that I sounded angry, but the unnecessary deaths that I have seen simply because people are sabotaging themselves and listening to the charlatans is just unbearable.
ReplyDeleteCherry
Wow P!! ( the original) you continue to insinuate that we don't seem to comprehend your comments, and yet you respond to Cherry on her very first where she clearly is saying that she is a trained healthcare worker currently treating COVID patients, and then asking her about her qualifications and accusing her of spreading " her own science" and you wonder why our medical community is tired, not only from dealing with sickness and death, but also with all the ridiculous misinformation disseminated by the people that have not been listening to the experts from the get go. The function of MRNA vaccines has been explained ad nauseam, not one scientist has ever stated that they will protect against infection at 100% , they were tremendously effective with the original strain at both protecting and avoiding serious illness, now they are mostly doing the job on cutting down on hospitalization and death, there are daily updates on reputable publications regarding their efficacy with the new variants, furthermore we were told repeteadly that we would be in a world of pain if we didn't vaccinate the entire world, and in failing to do so, we have given the virus permission to mutate and spread like wildfire, and this is a fact, unless of course you know better that the people that have been studying viruses for their entire lives, in real universities.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your reply.
As far as I am concerned, I just want to add that when I said " I am not an academic" , I didn't mean I am not graduated.
I am graduated with a plus of masters but my field is not medicine ( so I am not an expert in this sense).
Although I am not a doctor or a researcher, working in a lab (my job Is quite different and I get tested continually for Covid and periodically for my health conditions in general, given that I am a flight assistant), I am able to read scientific reports which have nothing to do with the ordinary news anyone can get on the internet.
P.(the original)
Flight attendant, sorry.
DeleteIt has been a long and hard day.
P.( the original)
Well, P! it doesn't seem that you are comprehending the highly scientific reports that you are reading, because your statements go against every single opinion of the science world and by the way there is that thing called new data, and information which prompts the experts to revise, and qualify their research.
Delete"against every single opinion of the science world"
DeleteNow that is so infantile, it´s almost funny.
This claim is obviously not true for the covid discussion as there are countless reputable scientists on record not agreeing with the narrative and therefore opposing the measures. You (and many others) seem to be blind to this.
Your above claim is also obviously not true for science in general, as the challenging of ideas and arguments is the essence of science.
It is also obviously impossible to know every single opinion of the science world. It is not even clear what exactly the "science world" is.
It is these claimed absolute truths that make the mainstream side of the argument so untrustworthy. Anyone who wants to be taken seriously will be careful with such absolute claims.
It is, in general, easier to prove things wrong than to prove things right. The medical science, a prime example of an empirical science, will struggle to ever prove things right. We can only search for truth and should be humble in the process. There is plenty of room for wrong assumptions.
P the original (as if there were hundreds P on this site) is the same P who stated that i have 50 different identities. She sees conspiracy everywhere... Probably she has the same approach with the virus and vaccines...
ReplyDeleteHelen,
ReplyDeleteplease,
cannot you stop this senseless and unfriendly discussion?
Some people really are ruining your innocent blog and use it for different purposes ,

DeleteIm afraid here there isnt any administrator who runs this site, at least as as far as good politeness is concerned. Many times apart this topic of the virus, we have seen some commenters being rude towards other ones without any reason, but no one has ever made an intervention.
DeleteThis is a place just to have a look at these pics, which are published also in other sites, not surely an example of a good social.
/W. W.
Helen,
ReplyDeleteI, for one, thank you for allowing open frank discussions regarding fashion and sometimes the other topics connected to be discussed. Clearly someone ought not get their medical advice solely from a fashion blog, especially if it is incomplete. Gathering the incomplete info, considering it with other info and your own situation can be so helpful. As always, the best answer to speech with which you disagree is more speech not censorship. Often people divert from respectful discussion but you (as the admin) have bravely let the content speak for itself while any who are offended or mind it are free to respond or self-censor.
I (and my family), like everyone else here, have many in our family’s orbit who are vaccinated, unvaccinated, those who’ve had covid (asymptotic, flulike, hospitalized, & died), those who haven’t, elderly, young, ICU nurses, doctors, teachers, those with allergies to some ingredients in vaccines, those who are genetically immunocompromised and are (along with immediate family) still in quarantine for almost 2 years because both the vaccine and the variants pose severe risk to their health, and virologists (one who worked on one of the vaccines and whose sister is genetically immunocompromised). That one virologist (whose vaccinations are obviously all up to date in order to work), to be a resource for his sister and follow his job protocols, along with his whole family (wife & 5kids), have been in quarantine since Spring 2020, even though they are vaccinated. Our kids are friends and have been doing video play dates or outside visits over 6’ apart since then, just wow!
Also, objectively speaking from a language point of view, if anyone says they have to protect the “vaccinated” from the “unvaccinated” then you do not have a true vaccine in the traditional use of the word. You have a therapeutic or something that may mitigate the impact like the flu shot (which is a mixture of various likely common flu strains to strengthen your immune system’s response), but a vaccine is one in which you have accomplished immunity when exposed to the bacteria/virus and its descendants. I am so sorry for those who are now shocked to have gotten Covid after taking so many steps, the data on this has been available for some time. Please take precautions, regardless of vaccination status, when around those in high risk groups- elderly, immunocompromised, or those with comorbidities.
Sadly, like the flu, corona viruses mutate and can be very tricky to have a true vaccine in the traditional meaning of the word (especially in such a globally interconnected society). Even though virologists have worked very long hours in strictest quarantine to try and keep up with vaccines that may help those in need, it may very well end up being like the flu shot long term.
People really need to make their own informed decisions and look for the most accurate info they can (which includes hearing from many different reputable places). Even those who have been setting policies in the US (and other countries) have changed their recommendations and their stats over the past couple of years, even the past couple of weeks (saying things some were censored for over a year ago).
Blessings to you all and your loved ones as you continue to make your best choices serving those in your individual situations dealing with Covid.
So sorry this became such a way long post,
Glo
Glo, I have read your sensible, sensitive, great comment. This is the sort of discussion I like and I am used to. I am not used to people offending others about their comprehension skills, including the interpretation of scientific reports. I was well trained in such matters when studying at University and for my masters.
DeleteMoreover, I had a long training in First Aid measures as well as in coping with the most severe flight conditions and passengers' security. That' s why I do not even reply to this very mean and untrue claims.
When I began to realize that my comments were being misunderstood, I suspended producing comments which would have ended up in jumping to further biased speculations.
I am very surprised at people questioning my honesty in reporting such painful situations, I mean some ( not "many" ,as someone has wrongly inferred from my words) of my vaccinated friends are still in hospital. I did not see someone saying they were sorry for my friends, on the contrary, I was being questioned and they told I should even make up the things I was saying on purpose! I cannot accept this.
One can be a first level scientist but this does not mean he / she has communicative skills when talking to people. I do not find it offensive towards me, because, all in all, I may overlook all this. What hurts me is that I know for sure that some people I know are risking their lives and still no mercy is shown here for them. There may be exceptions, right, but they are human beings and I would have expected a tad of empathy for them and what I was reporting.
My job puts me at risk on a daily basis given my interactions with hundreds of people and I have a right to doubt , despite being fully vaccinated, how I would end up if I ever catch the virus. I think this is a reasonable doubt and this does not mean I am advising or suggesting others what measures they should follow or despising virologists and their efforts.
I like class both in fashion and in communication. I thank Helen for giving us this opportunity. I also respect Vanessa's point of view and I do understand that she is not giving advice of any sort either, but she is just expressing what she thinks and feels about such a complex matter as the pandemic, which, as Vanessa said, can be examined from many angles.
Thank you and sorry for my spelling mistakes.
Glo and P. - I applaud your very well put comments.
Delete...and I think we all should keep in mind what a rationalist , mathematician and much more called Descartes once said:
ReplyDelete" Doubt is the beginning of knowledge".
Exactly right.
DeleteIf I may add some similar quotes:
Osho: "Unless you have the courage to doubt, you´ll never come to know the truth."
Kahlil Gibran: "I am ignorant of absolute truth. But I am humble before my ignorance and therein lies my honor and my reward."
AndrΓ© Gide: "Believe those who seek the truth, doubt those who find it."
George Bernard Shaw: "All big truths begin as blasphemies."
Einstein: "The truth of a theory can never be proven, for one never knows if future experience will contradict its conclusions."
Interestingly, doubt leads to knowledge, but knowledge also leads to doubt. Or as Goethe put it: "Doubt grows with knowledge."
The wisest people are the most doubtful. Because "The more you know, the more you realize you don't know." This is Aristoteles, I believe.
And every situation has to be observed from different angles and with distance and with "a grain of salt" - Cum grano salis, as old Romans say.
DeleteAnd yet, this is not the platform. This is a royal fashion blog, which should not be free to hijack for another agenda. Where will the line be drawn? Should we allow politics? I remember when members here were offended when Ivanka Trump's picture appeared. It was promptly removed. It was "not relevant" because she is not a royal. This subject has veered well beyond it's initial "royal" intent. There are other places better suited for this conversation. If people want information, on either side of the discussion, they are not going to seek it out here. This blog, once again, is being ruined for those who come here for a break from the harsh realities we are facing daily to look at some fashion and comment on it. Instead, we never know what we are going to read from the peanut gallery. If it is too much to moderate, maybe a members only format would be a solution. Guests can read everything, only members can comment. naughty people can receive time-out when appropriate. Other blogs do it and are successful. ~d
ReplyDeleteWow d, your comment is genuinely confusing. You must have a different connection to this site than I do. When I click on the site, I have 12 different postings immediately to choose from and can look back at any previous postings. I can look at any of those fashion postings I choose, comment or refrain where I choose. The vast majority of them center around fashion. You, it seems, have either only one posting to choose from or you have chosen to come back to this one post. If you did repeatedly choose it (which after the first 5-10 comments was clearly going in a non-fashion direction), you then commented with YOUR OWN over half a dozen non-fashion related comments. However, you are complaining that the non-fashion commenters are ruining this blog for you as an escape and therefore it’s whole format must change. (?)
DeleteSee the confusion. It doesn’t matter to me if you come dozens of times to say whatever you’d like (obviously the only one whose opinion really matter is the admin). I don’t typically count comments but in this case it really provided the context to your latest comment. I really hope such a comment as your latest does not influence the direction of this blog.

@Vanessa, good google philosophy 101, going from the health debate to the ridiculous. I guess that moving forward you will not only be the dissenting voice but also the Oracle!
ReplyDeleteWe are experimenting a terrible pandemic, people are losing loved ones daily, and some are left with terrible side effects, not to mention mental health and financial struggles. People are being brain washed by conspiracies by left and right wing zealots. Never before have we seen more egotistical and snow flakes throwing tantrums because they are asked to wear a simple mask, or to observe common hygienic protocols. Virologists, scientists and medical professionals are being mocked by politicians and internet trolls, so excuse me if I am not impressed by your stance of superiority because you are quoting philosophers.
CB
"Stance of superiority"???
DeleteI literally advocated for humbleness in the debate.
Dear Vanessa,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your quotes so much, but I think that we should now realize that when someone is labelling hastily all of them as " philosophers", things are derailing in the most laughable way.
I was even being questioned about my honesty in reporting that some ( not "many" as it was wrongly inferred) of my friends are still fighting for dear life.
Not a single word was spent to say " I am sorry for them".
I can overlook the other laughable assumption according to which I do not comprehend scientific reports, so my comprehension skills are being questioned too by....whom?
Nobody.
On the contrary , I will never accept someone saying I am making up facts or even kidding on the lives of human beings I love.
I see my comments being manipulated to an extent I would have never expected.
I appreciate class both in fashion and in manners and when I see someone jumping to these false conclusions so hastily, then it is better shut down.
One can be a first rate scientist and yet lacking interaction and communicative skills.
Words have a meaning and when they are misunderstood so painfully it is time to stop.
Have a nice day.

ReplyDeleteI feel admiration for your sensibile, sensitive, intelligent argumentations.
I would define them as "inclusive", that is to say that you seem to accept to consider the complex matter of pandemic from more than a biased angle.
This is intelligence in itself to me, because you are not forbidding anyone to voice their views.
To blind eyes this may appear as a way to disregard scientists, but your words speak clearly.
Don't worry, if you will ever been told you are bringing in theories, conspiracies, Google information or whatever, that is the way it goes on this thread.
It is my pleasure and my honor to read your thoughtful and wise comments.
Thank you.
@P, perhaps take a break…. Your desire to be right and your constant pontifications aren’t making you sound very smart!

ReplyDeleteSince you do not even have the courage to put your signature at the bottom of your comments, you have automatically lost any kind of reliability to my eyes.
You do not resonate smart either because I clearly said that no further posts which might bring to any form of manipulation would ever come from me on the Covid matter.
Where are my constant pontifications or desire to be right?
Maybe you want to say : my constant desire to feel empathy and to be human.
If so, yes, you are right and I hope I will never become pitiless.
Was I talking to your nameless posts?
Or do you want to cling to the evergreen snow flake or peanut gallery narratives, which have become the last resorts for whoever is left without any valuable argumentations to write on here?
Then, why don't you take a break?
Be humble enough to say: I have nothing to say.
Further comments from you, anonymous, won't be addressed anymore.
@P, the drama!!!! ππππ
