On the second day of their official visit to Scotland, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (The Earl and Countess of Strathearn) visited Orkney Islands. The Duke and Duchess attended the official opening of The Balfour, Orkney's new hospital in Kirkwall, where the duke and duchess spoke with the NHS staff and staff members of various hospital departments. The Duchess wore a cashmere wool coat from Massimo Dutti.

ReplyDeleteNot another impossible trousers at a royal function: At least this is not a jumpsuit. With the coat it's awful x 2 - literally twice the fabric anyone requires to be warm and mobile.
ReplyDeleteI think she looks simply lovely.
DeleteLove her hair and earrings. Of course there's a 'Scottish' scarf! The long coat is nice but with the trousers, top, shoes and clutch also cognac/ camel, it's a bit too much ton-sur-ton, almost bland. A red clutch or a red top for example, would've made a big difference.
ReplyDeleteYes, red would have been a good choice. However ,I actually like ton-sur-ton fashion and especially the colour camel. But Rosalyn is right, camel in particular can be spiced up very well with strong colours on a single piece. The chequered accessory....well, that's just how you do it as a good guest when hosting in royal circles. However, I don't like the hairstyle on her at all. Never have, actually, Frieda
DeleteThe scarf features the Strathearn tartan, the name by which the two go when officially in Scotland: Earl and Countess of Strathearn.
DeleteI like monochrome looks but this is almost too monochrome for me. Like the coat on its own and the pants and top on their own but together they swallow Kate up. I love the earrings though - I don't think I've seen them before.
ReplyDeleteKate looks lovely. I like the long coat, the flared trousers her earrings, light make-up and her hair pulled back from her face. The camel colour is nice and light, and the colours of the scarf work well with it. Her whole look blends ideas of warmth with Spring very well.

What is the weather like there? One man is standing there in a long sleeved shirt and William has on a shirt, sweater, and sport coat. One of the ladies has on a long sleeve dress and Catherine has on a long wool cashmere coat with a scarf? I like the scarf and of course it is Scottish but I’m wondering how comfortable they are in all those layers.
ReplyDeleteThe coat is to die for, I think.
ReplyDeleteThe scarf is in the tartan from the Earl title that prince William has in Scotland, so I think she sought matching colours.
Overall the camel is a bit bleak for her.

I love the cut of her trousers & coat, very appropriate, not too elegant - colour-wise it's a bit too bland. Hair & make-up, as always, perfect. She went for a less coiffed look here, which fits the location, I think .
ReplyDeleteLove the entire outfit, she doesn’t generally do lots of dress pants, but these are lovely, I like the flare specially in tall women like her. The coat is perfection itself, and low cost to boot. The scarf adds a little interest to this elegant monochromatic ensamble.
ReplyDeleteHair, makeup and earrings on point.

Perfection .
ReplyDeleteI like these warm and elegant colours. And her earrings are absolutely beautiful. She looks great!
ReplyDeleteAnother great outfit--although there's so much camel/fawn/brown, I think it works--the scarf saves it! Love the trousers--they are just gorgeous and although the coat is oversized, think it works well. I agree that is one of the colours n the scarf was picked up ion the sweater, the whole ensemble would look even better. I'm very much a bright colours are better person but don't find this at all drab. Hair looks great like this (with the wind in the Scottish islands, her usual style would have been a nightmare. Trust me!)
ReplyDeleteThis is 50 Shades of Camel. Thankfully she is wearing the scarf to break it up. I like the pieces individually. Worn together, she looks a bit blah. Another color in the bag or sweater would have been better. I like the cut of the pants a lot. I also like the colors in the scarf, though like this entire outfit, feels very autumnal. Her earrings are a beautiful nod to Scotland. ~d
ReplyDelete10/10 and not only for her fashion choices.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful sweat lady.

Elegante Catherine , bezaubernd :) :)
ReplyDeleteSorry but the color is terrible. I don’t know what she is thinking with her hair but it is how we wore it in the 70s at school.
ReplyDeleteSorry the color is terrible. Her hair! Reminds me of how we wore it as schoolgirls in the 70s
ReplyDeleteI love how Kate has again re-cycled her clothing have seen the coat & scarf before. I love the Scottish tartan thumbs up from me. Mary I
ReplyDeleteCatherine looked lovely in this outfit. She seems to never miss a step fashion wise.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure on the Orkney's it was quite cold; so the lovely wool cashmere coat was ideal. Duchess Catherine looks lovely, Prince William looks nice and casual. Great couple, who are do a fantastic job. Fancy a job going around cheering people up ;and people who are so happy to see them.
ReplyDeleteThe coat is fabulous but a bit too long.
ReplyDeleteI think the pants are too wide but the overall look is otherwise great.
...ck
I think quite the same.

All the pieces in this outfit are nice but the combination kind of ruin them. For someone so tall monochrome is hardly the best choice. And the color makes her look plain. -Siri
ReplyDeleteThis long (really long) coat isn’t a good combination with wide leg trousers. Either slim pants or dress/skirt would have been fine with the coat. Or a shorter coat with these wide legged pants. But both together aren’t a good look in my opinion. Plus, while looking well coordinated, this is just too much camel. Even the scarf cannot break the overly monotonous feel of the outfit.
