On the evening of May 4, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima attended 2021 Remembrance Day ceremony at Dam Square in Amsterdam. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the commemoration and celebration take place in an adapted form on May 4 and 5. During the ceremony, André van Duin gave a speech. The King and Queen also laid a wreath on the National Monument.
On every May 4 ever since the end of the Second World War, the Netherlands commemorates its victims of war. As from 1961, the Dutch victims of the Second World War are commemorated together with the Dutch victims of other conflicts, wars and peacekeeping missions that took place after the Second World War.
A solemn occasion, and they both look great.

The hat is cute. The outfit looks like an ill fitting gigantic trash bag.

A very solemn occasion to be sure, and the Queen dressed accordingly. Her hat and cape are quite nice, and I like her block-heeled shoes. Her pearl earrings and brooch are pretty but not over-the-top, and her watch was almost invisible. I also like her gloves and bag. In short, I guess I like everything about her ensemble today. The King's suit and tie were very nice too. .
ReplyDeleteWow to the Maxima.
ReplyDeletePerfect top to toe.
RIP to the fallen.
Her hat and hair look spectacular. I'm not totally sold on the caftan coat, but it is appropriate. However, those shoes are a no for me. They look orthopedic.
ReplyDeleteChel
About the shoes: she are wearing them as the stones on the Damsquare are cobblestones, and because of that she wears those shoes. If not the heel will be stuck between the cobblestones.
DeleteOh no Chel - remember what happened last time you used the orthopedic word? But hopefully you are safe from being berated because this isn't Letizia...

Agree totally. Whats more that cape-coat thing needs its hem redone. It is uneven and badly machine stitched along the bottom. Given the fact that was a cold blowy and partially rainy day I think elegant knee length boots would have looked better with that cape. They must have plastered her hair with very strong lacquer too to make it so tidy, it has not budged an inch and look how Willem Alexanders hair is blowing about.
DeleteOld women’s shoes..... not because of the block heel but because of the fit...

G, you are so right! LOL! In my defense, I did use the O word because of the horrendous huge round toe, plus the huge heel. Had the toe been a little more refined, it would look so much better (perhaps a square or pointed toe?)
DeleteChel
The toe of her shoes looks squared to my eyes. It would certainly be better for everyone's feet, if the unhealthy and insensible fashion of pointed toes and super-high heels would go away. Sometimes it brings to mind the ancient Chinese habit of tying women's feet so that they would look smaller. Men (and their feet) have certainly had it easier fashionwise... ;-)

Maybe she borrowed them from her mother in law. :) :) Abby
DeleteOn the last photo where Maxima is smiling reminds me of Ivana Trump .
ReplyDeleteAva
I deleted everything about the Trump family from my memory.
DeleteYes, Ava you are right....stylish and beautiful!

Is this the cape she wore on King’s Day? I find it a better fit for today’s occasion. Her hair looks great. Love the hat and earrings.

I had the same question about the cape. I agree on "Her hair looks great. Love the hat and earrings." Shoes are also quite appropriate for the occasion and the local pavement.
DeleteI think she looks very elegant, of course is a lot of black as the occasion requires, but with the lovely jewelry, nice small hat and lovely hair, it looks very stylish.
ReplyDeleteI find the shoes very appropriate for the outfit, with Máxima you never know, she could have gone vinyl. :-)

Máxima is always looking so much better in "less-is-more" clothes inclusive pinned-up hair. Chique and elegant. Cape could have been knee length for me.
ReplyDeleteBelle allure du couple pour cette occasion solennelle ; Maxima porte un genre de toque sous laquelle elle a su ramener ses cheveux ; j'adore sa broche sur cette grande cape - Le costume-cravate du roi bien combiné !
ReplyDeleteWhen she gets it right, she gets it right. Great look here from Maxima. Each piece is appropriate and restrained, not always her strong suit. So I won't repeat what has already been said, I will note that I like her bag. If it is not vintage, it certainly looks like it is. It is always a treat to see her tank watch. ~d
ReplyDeleteI'm simply adoring the fact she is wearing a decent hat with a beautiful updo. Finally, Maxima, I missed this side of you
ReplyDeleteLooked at the photos and thought-wow! As "d" says, when she gets it right, she certainly does it well. Thought this an entirely appropriate outfit and her hair and hat are fantastic--wish she would wear her hair up more often if she doesn't want to cut it. I take the point on the shoes--they are more like ones that Queen Elizabeth or Queen Margrethe would wear---and she could have got more modern looking block heels. Great look. Well done
